What do you do with clothes that you have worn so aren't clean to go back in the drawer/wardrobe, but aren't dirty enough to justify washing just yet?

I put them back in the wardrobe unless I know I will be wearing the garment again soon in which case I hang them in hangers from the wardrobe door knobs .

How soon is soon though?

@TheFlis
We have a weekend house and use a hat stand there for clothes that are 'on the go'. It works very well and, as you say, is good for marital relations.

QueSyrahSyrah · 25/02/2025 22:15

Back in the wardrobe or drawer if they're clean enough to be worn again. Laundry basket if they're not. I've been doing this my whole life and haven't had a mouldy wardrobe yet.

Your teaspoon analogy doesn't work OP, as a licked teaspoon isn't clean enough to use again tomorrow or next week, it goes in the sink / dishwasher.

maudelovesharold · 25/02/2025 22:15

I have an old-fashioned, free standing wooden towel rail and put my ‘worn but clean’ clothes on that!

Negroany · 25/02/2025 22:16

I have a blanket box along one wall, they all go on there. Unless it's jeans though, it's a false economy. I forget what is there, wear something clean anyway, and then eventually sort out the pile and it's all so crushed it has to go in the wash anyway. So, my attempt at being environmentally friendly and not washing stuff after one wear doesn't work that well unless I literally wear it again the next day (sometimes I do, jeans and cardigans I definitely do, and maybe jumpers in winter).

Needs another sort out actually.....

lollynip · 25/02/2025 22:16

I agree re putting them back in the wardrobe touching clean(er) clothes. I fold and put at the bottom of my wardrobe. So, it's basically the floor(drobe), but folded and hidden!

verycloakanddaggers · 25/02/2025 22:16

Have a big basket on top of a set of drawers.

Sounds like you need a chairderobe 😂

Kids use a towel ladder thing for uniforms. It works well. I use my wardrobe (well, hanging rail as mid decorating) and hang stuff at the end ready to re-wear. If it's non-hangy stuff it's on top of the chest of drawers. Husband uses the banister.
Clothes everywhere here!

I put them back in the wardrobe / cupboard. Mystified why you wouldn't.

Clothes that have been worn develop a musty smell if kept in a wardrobe. They also attract moths to anything woollen or cashmere.
I solve it with a hanging rail and hangers - white rail and nice hangers so doesn't look too bad in the bedroom. Anything that I have worn and will wear again before washing, goes on there. With less space I'd have a hatstand.

Mrsgreen100 · 25/02/2025 22:23

My Italian friend proudly showed me her bedroom in her , lovingly restored apartment
where there was an additional small wardrobe for once worn clothes!
she is completely horrified that in the uk we don’t get a designated day off to switch from winter to summer clothes!!!!
🙂

yikesanotherbooboo · 25/02/2025 22:24

@HundredPercentUnsure , good point re 'How long?'... I would say a few days . They benefit from a bit of an air anyway so I usually hang things up after taking them off if they aren't destined for the laundry and then if I haven't got fairly imminent plans for wearing them again I would put them in the wardrobe while I was straightening my room in the morning.

Climpy · 25/02/2025 22:25

The bottom drawer in my Pax wardrobe is a mesh basket. This is common with Pax, it allows space for the hinges. Mine go in there.

In our last house we each had a freestanding drawer on castors under the bed.

Shoezembagsforever · 25/02/2025 22:28

My DH has a beloved chairderobe in his home office. I'm OCD enough to quietly hang up stuff/place in laundry even at 1am. I'd make a great burglar I think!

theboffinsarecoming · 25/02/2025 22:34

I hang things up in the spare room doorway. Usually after they've been on the chairdrobe for some time already.

I read this on here before and it made me feel much better about my slovenly ways. I also could never keep up with how many “wears” each item has had if it’s been tidied.

If I had the room I could definitely have a valet stand, but at the moment I’m having to settle for the chairdrobe!

I have a banisterobe. Not even in my room so out of sight too. Winner!

Me too! One end of the banisterobe has the worn but not dirty clothing over it and the other end is a stop off for clean washing on its way to the wardrobe.

DoAWheelie · 25/02/2025 22:41

I have a special draw set aside just for those clothes. Stuff like heavy jeans I've worn once, or a cardigan etc. I also have a small shelf on my bedside table for PJs that can be reworn.

Everything clean goes directly away from the washing machine and when taken off it goes into that drawer, or into the washing basket. My bedroom has never been so clean before.

CheeseNcrackerz · 25/02/2025 22:41

I bought DH what I call a clothes horse. You can find nice wooden ones I like the Edwardian/ Victorian style ones. I'm sure you can find vintage ones too but ours is just in the style. It's brilliant he uses religiously.

pastaandpesto · 25/02/2025 22:44

I have a big pot of chunky wooden beads that can slip over the hook of the hanger. Every time I wear something that can be reworn I add a bead to the hanger. Once I've worn something a few times (depending on what it is) I'll wash it. Obviously if something is visibly dirty or smells then it goes straight in the wash.

tunainatin · 25/02/2025 22:45

An attractive wooden clothes horse that is never visible because of the volume of dh's clothes on it . Those of you who put them back, do you not find your wardrobe then smells a bit fusty?

Floordrobe!

Same here 😆

NewsdeskJC · 25/02/2025 22:55

We have our clothes in kallax boxes . I have one of mine specifically for clothes that I've worn but will wear again.

5hell · 25/02/2025 22:59
