Is a robot vacuum cleaner worth it?

Thinking about buying one but I don't know if they're any good.

Can you tell me your opinions/ experiences?

Are there any significant differences between cheap and expensive?

Absolutely

I have three, cheap to mid range and love them all

username299 · 24/02/2025 00:08

Not in my opinion. I have a couple of mid range Eufy Hoovers and they're sitting in a cupboard. I used them for a few months.

slipperypenguin · 24/02/2025 00:11

Bought the eufy after rave reviews on here and honestly Not that impressed.

First one came with it the mop pad and I had to arrange for a delivery of it, then the battery died and wouldn't charge after two weeks so needed a full replacement. Had a few other issues with it clogging up despite being cleaned regularly.
I wouldn't buy it again

Lovelyview · 24/02/2025 08:49

Robot vacuums are glorified carpet sweepers. We have a Eufy which you can set to go off once a day. Our house has lots of different levels so it mainly does the hall, dining room and kitchen. You need to make sure there isn't anything to get tangled in like phone chargers and boot laces. The dust collector fills up very quickly which is good because it means it's picked a lot up but a pain to empty every couple of days. You also have to clean the filters (same as for most vacuums) and the brush often. We have a lightweight cordless vacuum to do the rest of the house. On balance I think it's worth it for us but it's not a miracle solution.

Depends what you want it to do! They are not a replacement for a proper vacuum cleaner. I have a basic Eufy G40. It toddles around getting to places that I can't be arsed to on a daily basis (under sofas, pantries etc) and does a decent job BUT I still do a thorough vacuum every week - skirting boards, corners etc. No robot vacuum can do those unfortunately!

BeaAndBen · 24/02/2025 08:53

Only if you don’t have much furniture. It gets itself stuck under kitchen chairs all the damn time. Not worth the money at all.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 24/02/2025 08:54

Depends what you want….

we have wooden floors not much clutter on said floors and 2 small kids

I love it.l we have eufy X10? X9?
it mops and hoovers - it’s not perfect and you do still need a deep clean once a month but it---- saves me a lot of effort

Headingtowardsdivorce · 24/02/2025 08:55

I've got a cheap one to use on the wooden floor downstairs. I love it, it saves me continuously having to brush the floor.

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/02/2025 09:01

I’ve had a couple of cheap Eufys and they were shit, in all honesty. Now we have a roomba that has mapped downstairs, knows exactly where it’s going, avoids cables and the pet bowls because it does what it’s told and then when it’s done drives back to its dock to empty it’s own bin. Easy peasy, super low maintenance and all it wants in return is a clean bag every couple of months. No it doesn’t get into a couple of the more awkward corners or do the skirting boards but I do that myself once a week or so and the roomba runs maintenance in between. It’s the best and I love it.

slapdashsusie · 24/02/2025 09:24

I absolutely love ours. I bought a cheap non-programmable one that pootles around twice a day.
I empty a full dust canister twice a day, I keep all my windows open and have two indoor cats.
running it morning and afternoon means I always pick up clutter and so the house is always clean. I find with less dirt in the carpet that my skirting boards stay dust free, and I did drag out the big vacuum when I first started the robovac journey, but it comes up empty so now I don’t bother, just run the robovac twice a day.
if it died I would replace it straight away, that’s how much I love it :)

Stai · 24/02/2025 09:27

Love ours!!! I feel like superwoman, having a meeting whilst cleaning the house!

SnuffleTruffleHound · 24/02/2025 09:28

Love ours but it’s not a replacement for the vacuum. It’s great for a mid clean hoover. We have a dog so hair gets everywhere.

OfDragonsDeep · 24/02/2025 09:29

Definitely, love mine

ScreamingBeans · 24/02/2025 18:01

Mixed reviews here. Would those who hate them mind saying what their brands are? (So I can avoid?)

I have a friend with 2 Dysons, called Joan and Jane. One stops working every time it finds a patch of sun (sensible) and the other keeps making a run for it out the front door and wedging itself in a hedge.

I went off the idea of having one after reading about the dog that crapped on the floor in the middle of the night and the robot vacuum cleaner happily smeared it everywhere…

uptomyeyes1 · 24/02/2025 22:11

Love my iRobot j7. (Roomba). Programmed to do the whole ground floor three mornings per week. Has a camera on it so avoids obstacles (that would include animal mess if there was any). Send me photos of "obstacles" such as the dog. As others say, it keeps on to of dust/animal hair, but you still need a weekly vacuuming. Wouldn't be without mine.

Fins2025 · 24/02/2025 22:17

A million times yes.

Doesn't have to be an expensive one, though obviously they are a little bit more bells and whistles.

I have a dog and they're brilliant for keeping the shedded fur at bay with minimal effort.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2025 22:33

Love them. Have 2. Upstairs and downstairs

tunainatin · 24/02/2025 22:36

I love mine. It doesn't take away the need for a weekly vacuum but does keep the floors clean in between.

Rumoursofrain · 25/02/2025 13:37

I have a Eufy X8 and I love it. I dont think iy does a great job of mopping, but with dogs my floors get very muddy. As a vacuum its brilliant and I love not having to empty it every day as its self-emptying,

Chasingsquirrels · 25/02/2025 16:27

I fully accept my standards are probably lower - but I really don't get this "doesn't replace a weekly vacuum".

Mine goes every night and vacuums the while of downstairs (except the utility where the dog is).

I only get the other vacuum out for the stairs, my car, or immediate cleaning up (dry spills, dog tracking soil in etc).

Mine is a gyroscope based Eufy, maps where it has been but doesn't remember. Basically just cleans the whole space methodically.

Upstairs I've got an old bounce about randomly Eufy which goes on twice a week (less mess as dog not allowed upstairs, no shoes etc).

I'd replace immediately if it broke (and did - hence having an upstairs one as DP took it away and fixed it, but I'd already replaced by the time he brought it back 2 weeks later).

Didntask · 26/02/2025 12:53

Well, yeah, your standards are lower then 😅. The suction on a robot vacuum will never match that of a regular vacuum, they don't vacuum skirting boards, ledges or corners properly.
