Are all cordless vacuum cleaners rubbish?

I have a Dyson one that has never been much good. If I used it on full power it doesn’t last very long. So I did some research and found a new brand called Moonpod that had rave reviews and it was a lot cheaper than the Dyson. Sadly it’s about as useless. I want a good vacuum cleaner that will last and is uncomplicated so I am thinking about getting a Henry. I used to use one when I was cleaning offices and it was really powerful, and apparently they last forever. Has anyone else bought one and was it worth it?

I love my vax blade. It’s a basic one but when it breaks I will get a twin battery one, although I can do my whole house on one charge if it’s pretty clean & tidy already. I hate Henry, a tug to get him to move along with you can see him tipping over, and I never found the suction very good, but they do last forever.

I agree with you. I have a Dyson and it's useless. I wouldn't be without my Henry which I've had for decades, despite having abused him by sucking up builders' rubble, etc. You can easily, and cheaply, buy replacement parts - I would recommend an extra long hose which means less pulling him along. Mine rarely falls over and I'm not particularly gentle - they still work when the are tipped over anyway.

A cordless is handy for smaller jobs though. My Mum got a cheap Black and Decker one at Costco a few years ago and I've been really impressed with it.

Another vote for Vax. Much better than my old Dyson.

My cordless Dyson is useless. I use it for crumbs and to do the stairs, that's about its limit. I love my corded upright Dyson though, had it years and never had a problem with it. I can't imagine relying on a cordless for the whole house of any brand personally.
I can't get on with Henry's at all. Yes they're robust, but I find them heavy, cumbersome and tip over all the time. I think the quality has gone downhill as well, the motor isn't as powerful as it used to be. Some people love them though.

I had a Vax cordless and couldn't be doing with the constant charging, we have dog and it just didnt cut it! So I swapped it for a Shark corded which is just the bees knees! I wouldn't get cordless of any brand again.

redannie18 · 21/02/2025 15:37

I had a dyson and it was rubbish. I’ve had a bosch athlet for a while now and i think its fab.

Imtoooldforallthis · 21/02/2025 15:38

Another vote for the vax blade although the charge doesn't last long, it picks up really well

MyCatNamedCookingFat · 21/02/2025 15:45

I'm wondering this too.

We have a Miele which is fantastic but tedious every day, so have a basic manual carpet sweeper for everyday which is really good at picking things up, including hair!! Two teens with long hair and a cat.

grumpypedestrian · 21/02/2025 15:49

I was fed up of replacing the expensive hoover head on my amazing Miele (hair destroying the hoover head) so bought an anti hair wrap Shark cordless. It’s pretty good but the charge and power pales in comparison to my Miele. I use the cordless for most of the house but still use my Miele for proper deep cleaning.

Roomgigi · 21/02/2025 15:53

Henry cordless is quite heavy and I only use it quick clean ups
Henry corded is fine and the long cable is a plus

Miaowzabella · 21/02/2025 15:53

I have a G2 Air Ram which is excellent. My Dyson stick is very disappointing though.

JC03745 · 21/02/2025 15:54

I have a corded henry. I find the suction really good, but its heavy to pull around. We were renovating and its been used to pick up copious amounts of dust, debris and the odd nail and screw! Its still going great guns, but I too want a cordless vac.

I only recently found out that henry also do a cordless stick version. Its lighter and has a bigger bag capacity than the Miele I was thinking of. I haven't bought it yet, because I'm still open to other brand suggestions.

Semiramide · 21/02/2025 15:56

Hetty is as good as a Henry but smaller. Best vacuum cleaner I've ever had.

Cordless are only useful as a back-up and quick cleaning, or if you live in a fairly small flat. My Shark is much better than the Dyson I had previously.

RockahulaRocks · 21/02/2025 15:57

Dyson was appalling, another vote for the Vax Blade. I splashed out on a spare battery for it so usually have one charged up, ready to go when the current one conks it.

Clarice99 · 21/02/2025 15:57

I love my Miele Triflex, it's fantastic.

The downside is the price, but I've had mine for about 5 years and there's no decline in performance, so I view it as money well spent.

ThimbleT · 21/02/2025 15:59

I recently bought the Russell Hobbs one for £65 and so far it’s been amazing for daily use. We have several pets and i have to empty it every single day as it sucks up so much hair and dust it fills the tank completely. It’s ridiculously light, separates out into a handheld vacuum too and is still going strong at the end of vacuuming a large 4 bed house. 10/10 from me.

We do have a corded Shark that we also use once a week, but only because we had that one first tbh.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 21/02/2025 18:05

I have a Henry one and think it's great but prior to that I had a Dyson cordless. I haven't used a corded vac for years.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/02/2025 20:18

I bought a G-Tech Air Ram for my DParents , mainly for safety as no cord and it was leightweight . Easy to empty the cannister and everything well designed to snap it back in position.

I have a Halo Capsual for instant clean ups ( cordless and good sized bag) . It does clog up with hair though and I feel the suction isn;t as good now , maybe the roller is going .

Shark Stratos is my new main vacuum ( corded but 10m cord) , Really pleased with it ,
