Just that - I've just read that you should replace your sponges once a week.

At least once a week or sooner if it gets stained from spagbol or abit crusty from tackling a burnt pan

I use washable ones and have a fresh one daily.

They spend about a week or so in the kitchen and then go on to bathroom duty. From there, it's bin duty. The really lucky ones get to scrub the cat litter tray.

I don’t use sponges. I use dish brushes which go in the dishwasher every night or microfibre cloths which also get changed daily.

Rainyblue · 20/02/2025 22:24

Don’t use them - use a washing up brush, a wire scourer, and cotton cloths which get changed every day.

CuteEasterBunny · 20/02/2025 22:24

Once a day.

I use the Elbow Grease ones, half sponge, half scrubber, shaped like a monkey nut. I pour a kettle of boiling water and disinfectant over it every night, so mine last quite a while! They are too sturdy to replace every day! The little sponge and green scrubber ones I used to replace every other day. The Elbow Grease ones are more cost effective to me.

Do people just throw the sponge away after a day?!

I like the idea of giving them progressively dirtier jobs, might try that.

Same here!

Pallisers · 20/02/2025 23:51

I wash them in the dishwasher every cycle. So they last about 3-4 weeks.

Same but usually kitchen, bathroom, toilet

SnoopySantaPaws · 20/02/2025 23:55

I use a combination of a dish cloth a scrubbing brush and a sponge, but the sponge is the aqua coloured ones about an inch and a half deep with the white scrubby bit on one side I give the sponge a good wash every time it's used and sits in the dishes rack so it dries out it gets replaced fairly frequently and goes onto progressively dirty jobs of which there are no !!

Needspaceforlego · 20/02/2025 23:58

I use cloths and bung them in a wash every few days.

I can imagine the amount of waste if sponge which are effectively plastic are going to landfill every other day

PickAChew · 21/02/2025 00:00

I use the cellulose ones and chuck them in the dishwasher. Use them until they fall apart.

Cosyvibes · 21/02/2025 00:09

I use a microfiber cloth in the kitchen for worktops, cooker and sink. At the end of the day I use it to give the bins a wipe over then it goes in the wash.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/02/2025 11:33

Microfibre cloths here
And washing up brushes that go in the DW

For really manky things it'll be a metal scourer (the ones on the handle ) then they;re rinsed and air dried .
