Thrilling subject... bedding storage

I know, this is a very racy topic for a Tuesday afternoon, but it's a very big question... How do you store your clean/spare bedding??

I do the old mumsnet hack of keeping sets inside the pillowcase, but my airing cupboard still looks chaotic and messy.

I keep seeing these storage boxes on my social feeds, has anyone bought them and are they any good?
I haven't seen any for super king sets but presumably if I break the set up it should fit? (Quilt cover & 2 pillowcases in one, fitted sheet & 2 pillowcases in another)

Please, thrill me and inspire me...

I have a big landing cupboard and use the smaller storage boxes from Must Have Ideas as they work out cheaper than the ones you posted. It's working really well.

Each family member has two full sets of bedding which is kept in a pillowcase in bottom of their wardrobe in a stacker box, so as we strip, it's there and can remake straight away if needed (I started doing this when dc were little and liable to be sick etc on it) they are teenagers now and they do their own but they've kept the same system.

I think I have far too much bedding...

LurcherMumma · 18/02/2025 14:15

Pre kids I would always iron them, take up way less space when flattened. Now a day's shove each set in pillow case and in the drawer under the bed. Anything not regularly used is in the airing cupboard in a vacuum bags.

I often wonder why I still have multiple sets on the go. Really you need 2 max.

Are they similar style boxes, or totally different? And does a set fit in each box, or do you mix it up?

They are bigger, I put sheets in one, pillow cases in another etc. they fold flat of you're not using them either which I find handy.

LoafofSellotape · 18/02/2025 17:46

You could put 2 or 3 sets in each box I think

I recently decided the same and as part of my declutter have whittled it down to 2 sets of summer bedding and 2 sets of winter bedding (brushed cotton).

How do people here store their duvets? I have a thin summer double sized one and a thick winter double sized one. I can stuff the summer one into a cupboard but the winter one takes up so much space when it's not in use, and doesn't fit in a cupboard. I usually cram it in a black plastic sack and leave it up a corner in the bedroom- very ugly! I'd prefer a better solution if anyone can suggest one.

I have a zippy under bed bag where they live.

Heelworkhero · 18/02/2025 19:00

I shove them in the upstairs cupboard that you could walk in, now is shelved out.
Along with towels, the hoover, spare duvets etc

It is extremely messy.
However, it is a cupboard for storing bedding and towels……. It can stay messy until I die.

And likely will, unless I win the lottery and employ a full time housekeeper.

Daisiesanddaffodils24 · 18/02/2025 19:04

I have a bed that lifts up and it is good for storing bedding. However, I also like the PP's idea of storing duvet covers in the room that they will be used in.

ThreeB · 18/02/2025 19:06

I use exactly those ones and they're awesome. They fit a superking sheet, superking duvet cover and a couple of pillow cases pretty easily. They look nice and neat too

Ive been looking at those and have had them in my amazon basket a few times. I just cant see how I would fit the sheets and covers and pillow slips in them
I have a lot of different bedding and its all in its respective pillow case rammed into the airing cupboard, all topsy turvy, squished in.

The massive Zip bags from ikea, I have a dust mite allergy made worse by anything cardboard

Vacuum bag? I put them under the bed as we have an ottoman sort.

AuntieDen · 18/02/2025 19:50

I stack bedding sets in the pillowcases in a cupboard (we don't have an airing cupboard here) they stack neatly laid flat and handily are almost exactly the right size for the shelf.

Then vacuum bag our out of season duvet (the seal is never perfect but I brown tape both ways around it after shrinking and then it doesn't expand, its not great but its only a couple of times a year to do it) and a spare duvet plus pillows for the inflatable spare in another bag.

Both packs plus the massive inflatable bed fit under the normal spare bed with space to spare. I used to vac pack the guest duvet already in the cover but it is really crumpled when it comes out so I just add to the stack of bedding sets now.

soupyspoon · 18/02/2025 19:58

How on earth does a bedding set get stacked 'flat'.

fold the sheets to just under pillowcase size. Fold three of the pillowcases up, stack sheets and pillowcases. slide them into 4th pillowcase. add to pile of other bedding.

Oldraver · 18/02/2025 21:00

We have an ottoman in two bedrooms that bedding goes into (including the out of season duvet)

We have several sets from summer and winter, and use top sheets so slightly more bedding than usual

DS has a coverless duvets and has just one sheet on his bed so his diaries bedding goes in a box under his bed

DorothyStorm · 18/02/2025 21:22

I store the set within a pillowcase and it goes in the wardrobe in the correct bedroom.
