My 7 year old cordless Dyson is dead. The suction has been a bit rubbish for a few years and it can't hold a charge now, but I did love how easy it was.

My requirements are:

  • small three bed house, mostly carpets, some light coloured - need something that's great on carpets
  • I have long hair and it sheds a lot, also have a small dog who sheds much less - something that can handle the hair!
  • I don't have loads of storage space, so something small/easy to store
  • I like to use the hoover on my sofa/mattress etc. So something with a few attachments

I'm seeing a lot of love for Miele - is that where I should go? Happy to spend up to £400-500 if it's something that will work well and last.

What would you recommend? How hard is it to go from cordless to corded??

Thanks for all the responses!

Animal hair isn't a problem - she's tiny and her hairs are eyelash length. It's mine that's really long - at least 2ft full length. Untangling from a vacuum is a nightmare I'd love to reduce!

One advantage of Sebo vacuums is the brush roller can be removed in seconds, without tools. It’s much easier to remove hair etc with it off the machine.

I love my Miele, but it is very heavy , I can clean half way up the stairs with it but have a small battery Hoover which is for the upstairs landing, bedrooms and half way down the stairs. There is no way I can carry the Miele up and down stairs, if I could I would have an upstairs and a down stairs Miele, but that isn’t going to happen this side of a lottery win.

The bags for the Miele are very expensive as well, something to factor in if you are used to bag less.
