I am a little obsessed with washing detergent products. I am still yet to find my perfect combination. I have tried all sorts!

I am aware that powders are the best for your machine but I like to mix things up every now and then.

I need non bio due to my children and my partners sensitive skin. I want my clothes to smell fresh. I feel like they all smelly funny after they’ve dried.

Before I had my second I was a fairy snob. We are trying to watch our pennies now so want to know what makes your clothes smell lovely and like a newborn baby smell. What I have decided is that I love comfort pure fabric conditioner but still unsure on detergent. Sometimes my washing comes out smelling fresh and sometimes it smells funky 😕

My ds has eczema we use Aldi own non bio I really like the smell and it works. I wash pretty much everything on 30 degrees, and it gets the dirt out.

Aldi Almat powder

Buy a non-bio powder of your choosing and when you do your washing, out a laundry perfume in. I use kifra from amazon, you need a small amount, roughly 3 ml and it makes the washing smell lovely.
If your washing is coming out musty time to clean your machine.

Eco Hut Laundry detergent bought from Amazon.

I use the fragrance free version for daughter with extremely sensitive skin.----

Powder is NOT the best for your machine at all. It's an old and dying format because it's bad for clothes care, cleans by bleaching and clogs up in machines.

Non-bio is not necessarily better for sensitive skin. It's an absolute fallacy created by Persil. The manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank with it because it's cheaper to make and does a worse cleaning job.

If you're having skin sensitivity issues the first thing to ditch is the conditioner.

The best way to save money is to buy a decent quality biological detergent that will clean properly and ideally at 30 degrees first time only so there's no re washing, buying Vanish on top etc.

Not sure that it's a fallacy that non bio is better for skin. I can always tell if a bio washing product has been used. Itchy and if used on pillows, my face comes up with a beautiful rash! Never any problems with non bio.

I use small amounts of all washing products as I read somewhere that if you use loads you can get bacteria or something. I'm also trying to wean myself off softner.

Thanks guys will try Aldi stuff and try use less conditioner. I wash my machine once a month including filter so I know it’s not because of that. Xx

I use ecover zero because I hate smells of any sort (and I want people to smell my perfume, not my laundry detergent!). I have sensitive skin and it works great for us.

givemushypeasachance · 27/01/2025 16:35

I put a couple of drops of essential oil in the fabric conditioner drawer, saw that tip somewhere years ago.

TheNuthatch · 27/01/2025 22:06

Lidl non bio is great and smells nice. Ecover non bio is brilliant on stains and has a strong fragrance that's not as artificial and some.
If you needs extra help with stains, Astonish do non bio stain remover powder, very similar to vanish powder.
