Deep cleaning?

Would appreciate thoughts on deep cleaning (I've set up as self employed cleaner). I do regular cleans but have been asked to do a deep clean - what would you expect/do for this. Anyone got a cleaner and requested this or do this themselves? Thanks😊

I’ve asked for a deep clean pre Christmas when DH and I were both travelling for work and had guests arriving. It took 2 cleaners 4 hours to do full clean plus windows and we have 4 beds and 3 bath/shower rooms. It was just a thorough clean though not an end of tenancy type clean, for that I’d imagine oven/fridge clean and skirting boards/behind furniture and I’d expect it to take much longer!

I would expect interior windows and any glass doors cleaned ; skirting boards wet dusted, likewise door hinges ; exterior kitchen/ bathroom cabinets wiped down; fully vacuumed up to the edges with tools, fully dusted ( I would have removed any items in your way).hard floors cleaned; bathrooms sparkling. I would expect to smell furniture polish with a hint of bleach 😄

Skirting boards to me are part of a regular clean. Not a deep clean or end of tenancy. I'm a cleaner and include skirtings routinely.

For me it's things like

  • 'full top to bottom' - so, dust the ceiling lampshades, tops of cupboards, etc, things you can't see. I'd be on my knees for floor level, cleaning the kick boards in the kitchen etc, right under the bed. Also hoover bed headboards etc.
  • surfaces damp/wet wiped clean rather than just dusted, everything moved not just worked around
  • insides of cupboards & cupboard doors (eg kitchen cutlery drawers)
  • more bleach than normal (sinks / toilets bleached rather than just eg, Duck)

Basically I think 'the whole house is contaminated with poison, how do you make sure it's all gone'!

That sounds pretty reasonable, especially given the time of year and the size of your home. I had a deep cleaning done just before Christmas too — similar situation with travel and guests coming over. Two cleaners for 4 hours covered pretty much everything, including windows, and it made a huge difference.
You're right though — a proper end of tenancy clean is a whole other level. That usually includes the oven, fridge, inside cupboards, skirting boards, and even behind heavy furniture. Much more time-consuming and detailed than a standard deep cleaning session. But for a good refresh before guests, what you had sounds spot on.

That's interesting, what's the difference between an end of tenancy clean and a deep clean.

For a deep clean I'd say it's about using all the hoover tools in a way - so hoovering the walls, lampshades, ceilings, sofa crevices, all the risers on the stair carpet. Headboards, radiators.

Damp dusting or furniture polish, take care to clean behind the toilet, descale taps and shower head. Wipe the microwave, fridge, hob, toaster, kettle. Inside the windows.

For an end of tenancy the extra would be pulling out the cooker and cleaning behind it and pulling out the furniture. Emptying the kitchen cupboards and drawers and washing them. Defrost the fridge freezer and wash it.

Doing the oven, other than a wipe I would view as a separate job.
