Kitchen gloves!

I cannot count the number of kitchen gloves I bought during 2024, and how many were just rubbish. Marigold brand developed small holes between the thumb and index fingers - all of them - therefore let water in. Supermarket own-brands - either sizing was off or they were just not up to the task. Amazon generic things didn't last very long. I'm at my wits end!

All I want are gloves for washing up/wiping down in kitchen/bathroom, and general cleaning etc. Prefer lined. Size large.

Can anyone recommend, please? I don't mind buying a number of single pairs, or packs if available, or even cough up for a box if they are actually good. But I don't want to waste any more money on products that are just cheaply made and useless for the task in hand (see what I did there?😉)

I would be so grateful Flowers

Lakeland rubber gloves are of good quality and are white rather than some hideous neon shade.

IKEA rubber gloves. Lovely fit, sturdy, cheap as chips.

Echo PP above - Lakeland lined gloves are really good! **

** But, really - if your gloves aren't lasting, you should take it as a Sign from The Universe that you shouldn't be washing up, wiping down / general cleaning !

  • just accept it as a fact of life, employ a cleaner / husband and move on 😊

How long are you expecting your rubber gloves to last? I find a pair lasts me about a month. I use them daily but don't spend hours scrubbing and cleaning and the dishwasher does most of the washing up.

Because they are a non-negotiable essential in my life - I cannot touch a used plate or wet dishcloth without gloves on - I order in bulk (12 pairs at a time) online. I find the Elbow Grease brand do the job just fine.

@LindorDoubleChoc I find a pair lasts me about a month

I usually buy mine from the supermarket and they last me at least 6 months.
I use them for everything water- cleaning related ............... intrigued to know what you're doing with yours that they only last a month??

I can only presume I'm not working hard enough .............. 😬

@battairzeedurgzome - Thanks for the Lakeland recommendation. I went to Lakeland’s own site and they only seem to have the S and M sizes, no L (at least not for the moment) so I checked Amazon and they do have L so I’ve ordered a couple of pairs.

@Ilovemyspace – Thanks to you too for recommending Lakeland. But also for pointing out that if my gloves aren’t lasting, I should take it as a Sign from The Universe that I shouldn't be washing up/wiping down/generally cleaning. I am liking this and have decided to just accept it as a fact of life, employ a cleaner and move on 😆*I also used to buy my household gloves from the supermarket and they did last me at least 6 months so I’m glad someone else experienced this. I wish I could remember which supermarket/brand they were but drawing a blank and as I said tried several others without success, so decided to ask MN for recommendations…

Thebestistocome – Thank you for the IKEA recommendation. They currently only have S and M…

LindorDoubleChoc – I was hoping a pair would last me a few months, as they used to. The poor quality of the gloves I’ve encountered lately means they haven’t lasted more than a couple of days on some occasions. I’m not spending hours scrubbing and cleaning and don’t own a dishwasher, but use them daily for wiping down, washing up and holding the loo brush when cleaning the loo. I saw the Elbow Grease brand on Amazon when looking for Lakeland, so may try those too.

But thank you ladies, for the three suggestions – Lakeland, Ikea and Elbow Grease - between the three of them, surely one will triumph!

Just reporting back, ladies, that after a couple of weeks' regular use, the recommended Lakeland gloves are an absolute triumph! They're really well made and plenty of room without falling off my hands, plus they reach up to my elbows so protect sleeves. Its a sad fact that I am getting giddy now over success with small but vital issues in the home😂And to all who responded to my cry of desparation, thank you Brew Flowers

Agree! The best ones so far. Much better than marigolds. Plus nice green colour.

RandomMess · 17/02/2025 21:57

I use the black heavy duty ones.

RichmondTeri · 06/06/2025 14:58

Here because I'm so angry about the Marigold Stronger bathroom gloves being ridiculously small. If you have small hands they will suit you. Just wasted three visits to Sainsbury's trying to get refund. Managed eventually by ringing them. Had absolutely no joy on Marigold's own website, their FB, their Twitter, their X, their Tiktok. So relieved to see people on Tesco's website berating them - I was beginning to feel I was in the wrong!!

SunsetInToulouse · 27/08/2025 19:33

I have just arrived here having got pissed off about going through the 3rd pair of Marigolds in the past 3 weeks - just doing regular washing up. Always a hole at the end of a finger or thumb. Any further updates from anyone on Lakeland versus IKEA gloves, as I shall no longer be buying the marigolds!
