Washing machine shrinking clothes

Any ideas of reasons why my washing machine keeps shrinking clothes. We wash clothes at 30 degrees. I have had a repair man check that the temperature of the washing machine is correct and it seems to be. Ideas I was thinking of are: using a lower spin cycle and putting fewer clothes into the machine in one go. Thinking of getting a new machine as I keep having to buy new clothes and my children are are happy with their shrinking clothes.

What fibres are the clothes e.g cotton or synthetic? And how are you drying them after the was? High heat during the drying process seems a likely culprit rather than your wash cycle at 30 degrees.

At 30 degrees it isn't srinking them unless they are dry clean only or you are making your own clothes and not prewashing the fabric before sewing.

There is no way a machine at 30 degrees should be shrinking clothing. Spin cycle won't shrink them either.

What fabric are they made from? Was it pre-washed (if you sew yourself as a PP asked)? Normal children's clothes just don't shrink at low temperatures. Most don't even at 60!

Are they wool blends? are you tumble drying? It's just so unlikely to be washing.

(NB - my clothes were 'shrinking' but actually it was me eating too much cheese)

Are you using a tumble dryer? That's the more likely culprit.

No tumble drying at all. Just hung up in the regular way. I have 2 identical t shirts bought at the same time in the same size. There is a difference of about 3 cms in length (only 1 has been worn). My kids have noticed the same thing. My 18 year old son was showing me a tshirt of his and it has noticibly shrunk. I have previously had a repair man check the temperature and he said it was fine. Normal fabrics - cotton and polyester. Nothing posh or hand wash only. V strange.

When you say hung up in the regular way can you clarify? Over a radiator? Heated airer? Airing cupboard ? Outside line? Dehumidifier?

There's got to be some heat involved here somewhere along the way. Or fabric from the same retailer that hasn't been pre washed or is faulty?

I have some newer radiators I cant dry clothes over as they get so hot it damages fabrics for example. I've also had 100% good quality cotton sweatshirts shrink on a heated airer.

Hello. We dry on a drying rack in the airing cupboard. Warm but not hot. Thanks for reponses. It must be a heating error Will get the repair man back!

Put your hand on the door while it's washing, you'll feel through the door if it's hot enough to shrink clothes.
