Hiya! We recently started noticing some black mould build up on the ceiling in our bedroom so we've treated with the appropriate products but also invested ina good dehumidifier. The humidity has come down to about 50% which I've read is good. Going forward, do I just use for a couple of hours daily or does it need to be on overnight whilst we sleep in here? Also, I've had it on for a couple days to get all the moisture build up out and dreading this months electric bill. Should it be significantly more or are they relatively cheap to run? Thanks xx

You need to check the cause

Check for blocked gutters and then the roof

During winter you really should keep it on 24-7 it's about 4p an hour ish

I had an independent damp surveyor and bought a meaco with a setting that means it goes off at 55% humidity. But yes make sure you address any external water ingress or you're just bailing out all the time.

There's also good evidence they save energy overall - your heating would have been working harder to deal with moisture.
