MOving to brand spanking new house and need some help with organising housework

MamaMaiasaura · 03/05/2008 21:51

This will be our first brand new house and I want to keep on top of the housework so the bathrooms etc stay lovely and mould free etc.

I would love to set myself a timetable for house work with what i should do on each day. I have a 4 month old who rarely lets me out of sight and an 8 year old as well as dp.

I am a SAHM now and am enjoying being at home but want to be much more organised. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone have a timetable they work to?

get some really good ecloths

arrange with dp what you will each do and stick to it

tissy · 03/05/2008 21:58

I don't have a timetable, at all, I'm afraid, but my big tip for avoiding mould is OPEN THE BATHROOM WINDOW! No extractor fan is up to the job of dehumidifying a bathroom. Keep the bathroom on the warm side, and whenever possible, keep the door propped open to circulate the air.

moondog · 03/05/2008 22:00

Yes.
One huge clean lasting a day every month. Move furniture, hoover, windows, scrub out showers, deep clean loos and go through cupboards and drawers removing/recycling/discarding.

The rest of the time i don't need to do anything but put everytihng back in its place.
Oh, and not wear shoes in the house.

OK: Timetable then so far will be:

Daily - Hoover, Clean kitchen, Ironing, Washing, Cooking. Wipe around dishwasher and washer dryer. Clean out bunny.

Tuesday & Friday - Wash kitchen, cloakroom, bathroom and ensuite floors. Clean oven and fridge.

Monday & Thursday - Clean bathroom, ensuite and Cloakroom including the windows.

Wednesday - strip beds & wash all sheets and towels. Clean windows in all other rooms

No window in ensuite so how to I avoid mould there?

What are ecloths?

Are those lockable cleaning containers from blooming marvellous any good?

Will I actually stick to this or I am just day dreaming I am giving myself too much to do?

That is mad.
I take it you don't have paid emplyment?

E cloths

MamaMaiasaura · 03/05/2008 23:02

is that too much? Was/am a nurse but had another baby and sahm. At the moment i dont do nearly that much. But because this will be my 'job' trying to be organised. Is that too much then?

Does anyone ever hoover daily?

I hoover once a week, but only have carpets upstairs. Use dustbuster/sweeping brush daily downstairs.

Beds changed once a week and bathroom and kitchen properly clenaed once a week. Kitchen always cleaned after every use, including stove top - that way it never gets too bad.

Batha nd shower cleaned after every use, and toilet wiped in between proper cleans.

Lilliput · 03/05/2008 23:09

jesus, life is too short. Spend some time hanging out with your kids instead.

KaSo · 03/05/2008 23:09

I hoover twice a week but we're all out of the house at school and work so I just use the push along carpet sweeper in between times.
I don't have a routine for each day, I do the whole house on Weds and Sat. I clean the loos daily and wipe the sink and surfaces in the bathroom daily too.
Kitchen, draining board and worktops are done daily.
On my cleaning days I do the hoovering, mopping, dusting and glass cleaning, proper clean on the bath and sink, wipe down the kitchen cupboards, look for marks on walls and wipe them down etc....
I started when we moved in here and got it freshly decorated and it still looks gorgeous, so it is worth it.

MamaMaiasaura · 03/05/2008 23:12

re the hoovering - i do downstairs everyday as baby on carpet in lounge. Only takes about 10/15 min to scoot it around after kids in bed.

My husband hoovers daily, and does much of the housework, too.
We find the happier I am, the happier the house is

I hoover every day. I am in a new build and like it to look lovely too. Dh and myself have spent the day cleaning downstairs today. It looks so nice when its sparkly clean

moondog · 04/05/2008 10:00

I must admit that I feel a million times happier when my house is sparkling and everything in order.

Cappuccino · 04/05/2008 10:06

I know that flylady is insane and her emails are bonkers, but I do like her system

you get up, put in a load of washing, wipe the bathroom sink and toilet seat after you've used the bathroom

your house is split into 5 'zones' and you spend a week in each, doing 15 minutes each day (you use a timer so you don't go mad), and then you leave that zone

then you have kind of 6 little housekeeping jobs (eg feather dusting, quickly wiping down hard floors) that each take 10 minutes that you do once a week, so you can either do them in one hour block or one a day

if a room looks a nightmare you just spend 5 mins sorting it out, you don't have to blitz the whole thing

yes agree cod but also you get more obsessed with it if you are there all the time imo

if I am at home with dd2 I potter and potter and want to ahve it all lovely

if I am at work in morning and out of the house I am more tolerant of a bit of healthy mess and more inclined to use the time playing
