Down coat, what spin speed ?

Hi everyone, I know there are a lot of threads about washing down, but I’ve just washed my Mountain Warehouse coat with a specialist laundry liquid for down and spun it at 800 and it’s dripping wet, so bad that had to put a towel on floor after getting out of the machine. I googled the spin speed and it said no more than 800, otherwise it ruins the feathers. Is this normal for it to be that wet after 800 spin ? It’s a waterproof goretex as well. I’ve put it in the tumble dryer now on synthetics and dryer balls but f*ck knows how long it’s going to take ! I’m begging to wish I had just sponged it clean,

I’ve always spun mine at 1400. Never had a problem

I think mine spins at 1200 on Synthetics setting. The coat is definitely heavy and compacted at the end, but not dripping. Takes 2-3 tumbling cycles, also on Synthetics setting, to dry out completely. The machine has a humidity sensor and often shortens the third cycle. IIRC the Synthetics tumbling cycle is about 1.5h, so total tumbling time about 4h?

I'd spin it a few more times and/or at a higher speed before drying it

Thanks everyone, coat was expensive I think £150( I realise this is relatively cheap for down coat !) so just worried about ruining it. The one my husband has is even worse as a lot more down, I washed it once and thought I could put outside on very hot day but apparently not with down as it just clumps together.

Before you tumble it, have you run a cycle with proofing solution? Although the goretex means the down won't need proofing, the outer fabric will still need it in order for the water to bead. If it doesn't, the outer layer gets soggy. The goretex still keeps the down dry, but you loose the breathability. And the down will get wet if the goretex has failed.

Hi yeah I used Nikwax all in one wash and proofing. I don’t think it’s good to wash them too often really even with this. I’ll just be sponge cleaning it next time!
