Tips for getting my home smelling lovely?

Does anyone have tips for a beautiful-smelling home?
Does an electric diffuser exist that would be suitable for a large open plan kitchen/diner?
We have pets who go in the tiled areas, but not in the lounge where it is carpeted.
Recently renovated so all carpets/curtains etc are new.
I hear great things about Purdy & Figg but understand that it isn’t antibacterial?

The main thing is cleaning - use a good antibacterial cleaner regularly to keep tiles and floors clean, change filters on things like extractor fans, clean out litter boxes and food bowls and make sure the area around them is scrubbed down regularly to get any residue out of seams/edges, try to minimise fabrics and soft furnishings that will trap cooking smells and air the rooms out often. Then you can go for a diffuser or atomiser using a nice fresh scent of your choice.

Open windows and doors even on a cold day. You don't need them open for long but you need to refresh the air in the house is the main thing you can do.

@Gliblet thanks for this. We invested in a robot hoover/mop which goes around twice a day plus a ‘proper mop’ of the tiled areas once a week. Perhaps need to add in another mop as it does build up with the dogs and DCs!

Method wild rhubarb all floor cleaner smells great and leaves a lasting fresh smell.

How often do you wash the dogs?

NobleDeeds · 28/12/2024 12:04

Honestly, all dog owners’ houses smell of dog. How doggy they smell depends on how often they wash them. I’d focus on that rather than trying to cover up doggy smells with air freshener.

Mardyybum · 28/12/2024 12:06

@slightlydistrac dogs are bathed monthly and bedding washed weekly

What kind of mop? We used to have one of the stringy ones and all it did was sort of move the grot around, you need something you can give it a bit of a scrub with like one of the flathead ones with a microfiber cover. Also it's amazing how much even a couple of stray bits of pet food smell - if you're tight on time focus on the areas around where they're fed.

@NobleDeeds I think you’re right. I don’t think it’s recommended to bath the dogs more than we already do so perhaps something I just need to put up with!

@Gliblet its one of those spin mops. We have a brush attachment for it too which we do use albeit less regularly.
