Just checking what people think and opinions on using public laundrette for yourself and family everyday clothes.

My washing machine is broken and still waiting for the engineer to come repair but I have about 6 big black bin bags of clothes to wash and it it getting on my nerves now and I wanna take it to the local laundrette

But the thought of using a public laundrette not knowing what previous users have put in it is bothering me.

I've never thought about what others have put in the machines. It's a bit of a faff. You need pound coins. The place never has change. What I do is use a Wheely trolley and don't forget the detergent. I then come back when it's done. But then you need to use the dryer. So it's quite a long boring process.

Our local ones all take cards/contactless

I can't believe that someone who has probably stayed in a hotel - where the sheets are washed altogether in big launderette type machines - would be worrying about doing laundry in a launderette.

I've used the Laundry Revolution ones when we were having the kitchen done and it was great. There's quite a few round here and the giant machine is very efficient

@CandyLeBonBon that's cool. But gawd. Mine doesn't. They seem determined to be stuck in the 1970s. The guy who runs it thinks he's the the local player though, driving his flash car. All the nans of the locale love him! 🤣

I used a laundrette for years as a student and then living in shared houses and rented flats.

When I finally bought my own place and bought a washing machine, I couldn't believe how little could be fitted in a domestic washing machine compared to the ones I was used to.

Absolutely nothing wrong with using a laundrette.

I love a laundrette. Reminds me of when my kids were little. We didn't have a washer in our flat, so every Sunday, I would go & do all the washing. It's warm, and the smell of the dryers is so comforting.

Same.
I decided to leave my abusive ex whilst holed up in a launderette after my washing machine broke. It was so peaceful and one of the few places I could go and be alone (he insisted on accompanying me everywhere). I remember Wonderwall playing on the radio, and thinking 'fuck. I can't keep living like this'

I'm very fond of a launderette!

@CandyLeBonBon glad you managed to leave him and hope you’re doing ok now.

I love all washing machines and launderettes, I often use one on holiday. Different reasons to you - those who might have grown up like I did with clothes not being laundered regularly enough (or hardly ever) might understand.

When I was moving house I used my local dry cleaners who did a "service wash" - was about 20 pounds for everything washed and dried. Was all done in a day.
Was a total lifesaver!
