what Christmas bonus to give cleaners?

Hello

I am wondering if I can get people's ideas on Christmas bonuses for my two cleaners please? thank you

I am lucky enough to have two cleaners:

Cleaner One: has worked for me for almost 15 years and comes 5hrs once a week to do bathrooms and floors etc and is paid £18 an hour (and she provides cleaning products too).

Cleaner Two: started this year in May/June and comes 20hrs a week and doesn't do what I call heavy cleaning like bathrooms - its more help with laundry and dishes etc. She is paid £15 an hour.

Cleaner One recommended Cleaner Two - they are friends and would know what I pay both of them so would probably discuss bonuses too!

Cleaner One usually gets a £50 bonus

So what do people think I should give to Cleaner Two as a bonus?

thank you

I would give them both the same and probably more than £50 in the current climate.

£100 each?

WalterdelaMare · 23/12/2024 17:46

We have only one and give her £100.

Pettifoggery83 · 23/12/2024 17:53

200 each..don't be tight

2025willbemytime · 23/12/2024 17:54

Tight?

Jingleberryalltheway · 23/12/2024 17:55

I normally give a weeks payment.

helpmyback · 23/12/2024 17:56

There is no fair way of doing this

Cleaner one is £90 pw Nd cleaner 2 is £300 pw

So you could do a percentage or base it on no years workd or a combination but none of these seem fair

£50 plus £5 per year worked

So cleaner 1 is 50+75
Cleaner 2 £50 + 5

Or a whole weeks wage extra?

There must be a mathematically fair algorithm

MsXmasGGMasterTwat · 23/12/2024 17:56

I gave a week’s pay and a dipytique candle as my cleaner has commented several times that she loves mine. I also pay for the week she doesn’t come.

notnorman · 23/12/2024 17:57

We have given our staff £500 each

museumum · 23/12/2024 18:00

I give a weeks payment cause she doesn’t come for a week so really it’s a paid holiday but she’s self employed so her holiday ought to be included in her rate already so it is extra.

But we’re just a normal family with a few hours a week. Not 20h (0.5FTE)

Nothing, most most minimum wage people get no bonus at all, cleaners on MN are paid way to much as it is

fivechairs · 23/12/2024 18:24

I have a cleaner for 2 hours every other week to help me keep on top of things. She is paid £15 an hour, at Christmas I give her an extra £40 in a card and a box of chocolates.

BCBird · 23/12/2024 18:26

Wondering how big your house is, or in my case how messy you would need to be to need two cleaners for that many hours 😅

Merry Christmas...May it rain all day

littlemissprosseco · 24/12/2024 08:26

I give a week’s pay in a Christmas card. Plus a personal gift

CoastalCalm · 24/12/2024 08:28

Mine comes fortnightly I just doubled up the regular payment

BigDahliaFan · 24/12/2024 08:30

We gave her 2 weeks' pay. I used to give one week to previous cleaners but this cleaner is self employed.

CitiesInDust · 24/12/2024 08:31

We give a week’s pay plus about £20 in presents for her and her daughter.

BookGoblin · 24/12/2024 08:44

Weeks pay plus a bottle of champagne

MoreHappy · 24/12/2024 14:02

Ok thanks for everyone taking the time to feedback. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas!

wow my cleaner must hate me. Since when did giant bonuses and lavish gifts become the norm? I guess mine is two hours a fortnight and not almost full time but still.. mind blown

parietal · 26/07/2025 23:16

I give 1 weeks wage and a box of chocolates
