Can I keep a freezer outside?

I need extra freezer space and have no room in the house.
Can I put a freezer outside in an outside storage box ? I've seen there are freezers available that can be kept in garages, would one of those be ok outside?
There's a power supply so that's no problem.
Anyone know anything about this please?

Depends how cold it gets where you live and whether the storage unit is truly watertight.
The outdoor freezer I have in the garage is a small Beko upright which is rated to -15c. It’s been there about 5 years and has been fine. I am in NE Scotland.

We have one in our garage where the back door to it never shuts and it has lasted 14 years there plus the 5 years before (it doesn’t fit in our kitchen) and has outlasted 2 in the 14 years that have fitted

My DM had a chest freezer in the garage for about thirty years. Seemed to work great so far as I could see.

We have always had a freezer in our garage. The first one wasn’t intended for outdoors and lasted more than 10 years out there. Currently we have a Beko that is rated for outdoor use. The Beko website will tell you what the temperature limits are for a particular model.

Apart from the issue of operating temperature, I'm pretty sure freezers also need adequate ventilation. That might not be provided in a waterproof box.

Ur es just check which one u buy not all can operate in low temps

Thanks everyone. I'm in a relatively mild part of the country I'll check out some ventilation

We had a freezer of one sort or another in the garage for years and years when I was growing up. It was fine.

I'm not sure how the arrangement you describe will work though. Doesn't it need some sort of insulation to stop rusting?

My mother's current freezer is now inside her house because she is much less mobile and has worsening health conditions so cannot get to it if it is in an outbuilding.

My mum keeps hers in a lean-to, always has done
But they do need space around them for that air to circulate (they draw heat from inside the freezer to a coil outside that gets warm as a result, and remove the heat by blowing a fan over the warm coil.) If there isn't room for air movement at the back, it won't work properly. (It's the same indoors too)
