New vacuum cleaner for farmhouse

Hello everyone,

I need a new vacuum, and I've not had much luck with the last couple of purchases. I need something that's really able to suck up chunks of dirt - I'm meaning bits of hay, the odd pebble, and hair from animals and mud.

My current vacuum is a bagless shark and it just can't cope. It's like they're no suction and I'm constantly emptying filters etc.

Anyone found a vacuum that will cope with this amount of dirt?

Thanks

Not quite the same situation as yours, but we've had a Henry for years. Very powerful, just about indestructible, and it's often what builders and professional cleaners use.

I use a Henry at work (house on a farm). Though if the floors are bad I sweep first because it's not great for any hoover to be sucking up that sort of stuff!

Domestic hoovers are not designed for that sort of workload. You can sweep with a broom first then use a domestic hoover or, as per PP, get an industrial hoover (eg, the kind that builders use).

The "Charles" model from Henry hoover is the BEST. I got rid of my maintenance-heavy constantly blocking Miele for this lad and he is tough, he literally sucked some plaster off my wall accidentally 😅 And so easy to use. Never blocks etc

Thank you. I was thinking about the Henry because professionals use them, i will have. a look. Brooms don't pick up all the odd bits of hay. I think it's worse because we have brick floors so it gets in all the crevices.

We use a Henry too and it's been brilliant. We've tried others over the years but it's always been the best. We've got the green Henry which is the pet one to try and cope with the dog's hair! Apparently Charles (think it's the purple one!) is brilliant.

What about something like a Karcher wet/dry?

I have one of the cheapest ones that I use attached to a sander for sucking up sanding dust. Also used for any really grotty jobs and seems to handle it all with ease.

I’ve got a Henry with a pet filter which makes it smell less ‘doggy’
had a dyson previously didn’t rate it although liked it at first. It wasn’t very reliable or sturdy

Caspianberg · 01/12/2024 12:19

Also suggest karcher. We have one bought for building work after building dust stopped the Miele working. It’s heavy and big like Henry but you can even suck up wet mud, brick and loads.

I would suggest something like that for downstairs and a smaller battery style for upstairs or convenience in areas less dirty

Henry or Karcher or George that has a wash function, has been amazing in the car

Vote for a Henry here too. And he even comes with a smile 😃

Henry again. Plus you can get builders hoovers which are dead handy for really bad stuff as you can just empty straight into a bin, no bag. But super noisy and quite large. We got one from B&Q for about £60 as all the builders rubble and dust killed our hoover [they kept nicking it]

FarmersWife3 · 05/12/2024 15:02

Another vote for a Henry. Also live in a farmhouse and after trying other makes, we've gone back to Henry.

Thanks everyone, I got a Henry and you're all right - he's excellent. He's picking up all the mess like none of my previous vacuums have. Let's hope he lasts! Thanks for your help!
