Hello
Really struggling with very wet windows and surrounding walls ach morning despite ventilating amd having heating. I think a dehumidifier could be the answer. Please could recommend ones you've used successfully? We are a 3 bed semi with 3 people living here. Thank you!

I've just bought this one. I had a £10 Argos voucher to use and I can collect tonight. Hopefully it does the trick!!

You won't regret it. Good investment.

TheNuthatch · 20/11/2024 15:05

I have the exact same one op, you won't regret it, it's brilliant. It's so much better than the cheaper one I used to own.
I use it in a small utility room though, I'm not sure it's big enough to cover the whole house.

Cudz · 20/11/2024 15:09

@TheNuthatch upstairs is my main problem so my plan is to leave it on the upstairs landing or in the upstairs spare room with all doors up there open. Even if it doesn't entirely solve the problem surely it can only improve it. There was condensation on both mine and my ds's bedroom walls and ceiling this morning!

If you’re going to keep it in a room that gets cold I recommend getting a dessicant one rather than a refrigerant one. We had a refrigerant one (Ebac) that was fine in summer but froze up in our north facing kitchen overnight in winter, when we need it most for laundry! Now have a Meaco Zambezi desiccant one which did have to go back for repairs but it was back within a week and is also good and doesn’t freeze up.

BlueyDragon · 20/11/2024 15:11

Sorry OP I missed the bit where you said you’d bought one. Like I said our Meaco works well and after service was great

Ok, it should definitely help then. You'll be surprised how much water it collects. Hope it helps.

Cudz · 21/11/2024 14:28

Thank you. Is it sad that I'm excited to try it for the first time tonight and see how much water it gathers??!

Not sad at all op! It's very satisfying 😁

Cudz · 21/11/2024 20:36

I've put it on for the first time about an hour ago and the humidity was 80%. No wonder the house has been so wet every morning. It's now brought it down to 70% so hopefully will get it down to 55% where it should be in the next couple of hours. I can't understand how the humidity is so high!

OP posts:
Cudz · 22/11/2024 08:28

Update - the humidity would not go below 65 even with having the dehumidifier on all night and this being set to reach 55. Not sure why it's so humid??

I came on to say get a meaco whole house one. Instead of putting it where the condensation collects, it's counterintuitive, but put it where the source of moisture is (usually where you dry clothes, cook, shower, live) as the condensation just collects in the coldest place, but that place is not the problem. We have one downstairs and it solved the mould in an upstairs bedroom.

Cudz · 22/11/2024 14:13

@Runskiyoga we don't dry washing in the house (we have a tumble dryer in the seperate garage) and very barely use the shower as we tend to use the showers at the gym. That's why I can't understand why the humidity is so high. The dehumidifier is at 74 today and not going down at all despite being on for a good few hours now. I haven't even had the heating on today as I'm home alone so will only put it on later for when ds comes home from school. I'm just baffled as to where all the moisture is coming from.

I bought this one a few weeks ago. It was recommended by Which and I am very happy with it!

Runskiyoga · 23/11/2024 17:39

I don't know, but I hope once you have had it running for a week or two you will get the humidity down. It's also difficult to ventilate AND dehumidify, because you end up trying to dehumidify the whole rainy world

I would probably have chosen a bigger Meaco
If you can afford it, I'd get another. And run them both.

such as this
Meaco Arete One Dehumidifier & Air Purifier, 20L

My DS has this in his extortionate shitty student accommodation to make it livable. It works very well.
