Google AI says wash your bedding at least twice a year?!

For some reason, possibly getting to peri, too many kids, burnt out with kids sen and school issues, I have just lost the plot on my housework. It's like my dyslexia has got worse and in the last six months I just can't function. I need, however weird it sounds, a list of daily jobs to do. I do everything across the week but for some reason it's reactive not proactive.

Anyway I tried to Google a routine and this was the AI result. Feel like I'm winning at cleaning after this.

Bedding is ambiguous though it's possibly referring to say a mattress topper, the duvet and pillows rather than covers

JimPanzee · 20/11/2024 00:08

ChatGPT had much higher standards, practically MN levels of cleanliness.... every 3 or 4 days 😲

This isn't 'AIBU', but YABU to use the AI recommendations for anything.

Wash your duvet every 1-2 months? Equally as mad

pl228 · 20/11/2024 00:16

Bedding to me is the actual duvet/pillow. Not the bed linen.

Not that I would ever wash a duvet.

That's just the first thing that comes up. I'm thinking to myself "read no further, I'm a domestic goddess!"

I'm looking for more like timetable of specific chores, like TOM method. But daily things to do everyday. Tonight the dishwasher was on twice in succession. Right now I need a list saying things like wash up after breakfast until my fuzzy head clears up.

Adulting for dummies.

Twice a year? Think about the planet people, ffs. All you have to do is turn your duvet and pillows after 6 months (give them a shake to get the dust off), and then you are good for another 6 months. You can then cut it down to once a year.

Seriously though OP. I'm shit at cleaning schedules. What works for me is to invite a friend to visit and then I go batshit crazy cleaning 🤣.

I use a timer if that helps, so I set it and do 30 mins or whatever I have time for during the week
On a Sunday I do a "reset" I think the Instagram is calling it Grin I don't have DC though and I am a bit random but the place is clean

So through the week I
Wash up
Clean kitchen sink/drainer
Wipe kitchen surfaces
Make the bed
Cat stuff
Clean as I go with cooking and wiping up spills
Toilets cleaned
Two lists - one for food items needed and one for jobs that need doing, just in my phone notes app and add to it in the week

Sundays are
Bathrooms cleaned
Change bedding
Windows/mirrors
Hoover including skirting boards
Mop kitchen and bathrooms
Surfaces like bedside table, windowsills
Wipe down all kitchen surfaces
Empty and clean bins

My 30 min timer is during the week and I'll do something random like dusting all the high surfaces, wiping down the kitchen cupboard fronts, hoovering under the bed, cleaning under appliances, clean the microwave etc
Basically anything that I have noticed and has been bugging me or is on the list I made

mrssunshinexxx · 23/11/2024 06:13

I'd say this means the actual duvet and pillows

AspiringChatBot · 23/11/2024 07:15

Ha!!!! I always thought GoogleAI smelled a little fusty. Wasted effort bathing, really, if you go months without washing your sheets!

aodirjjd · 23/11/2024 07:18

Slightly off topic but I use the Sweepy app . It’s great for giving you a schedule. You basically have a list of rooms and tasks and then tells you how long it’s been since you did x, which means you can keep track easier.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 23/11/2024 07:21

Clearly neither GoogleAI nor Chat GPT are Mumsnetters .

Consider trying TOM Rocks Guided Cleans. Gemma tells you what to do so you can kind of just relax and do it! 😆 (body doubling).

There are daily ones (level 1s) and I do often do 10 minute calm kitchen clean when I have little motivation as well as 15/20 minute tidied, upstairs catch ups etc… It is a few pounds a month but there is a 7 day free trial so you can see if it works for you. Best money I spend each month, I think.

But if you don’t want to do that, these are daily tasks imo:

  1. Load/ unload dishwasher or do washing up daily or after each meal.
  2. Wipe down kitchen sides daily (several times a day needed in this house!)
  3. ’Swish and swipe’ of one bathroom - toilet and sink. We have two bathrooms and downstairs loo so I di a different one each day.
  4. 5 minute sweep/hoover of high traffic areas.
  5. 5 minute tidy
  6. 5 minute on load of laundry - do sth laundry related.
tbh, I don’t always do all of these every day but frequently enough that it doesn’t get unbearable!

I then do an upstairs or downstairs clean out very other weekend.

Thanks. I will try the sweepy app. For whatever reason I have just lost this skill completely. Not sure what's happened to me.

You could try FlyLady (the Fledglings threads on here) to keep you up-to-date with cleaning and decluttering.

Americans don’t tend to use duvets, they have things called ‘comforters’ (like quilts) I assume that is what they mean by bedding; and, as a PP said sheets etc would be called bed linen?

although that just brings up more questions, as it doesn’t mention washing sheets or linen at all.
