Hey, so myself, my partner and my little boy (5) have had scabies for a few months now. I have another little boy who is 3 who is only starting to get spots. I feel like I have tried everything, permethrin, melathion, lotions, oils. I’ve spent a fortune. Im also washing and changing the bedding every day. Washing everything. Hoovering and just generally making sure everything is clean. But it feels like we are getting nowhere! I’m getting so down because it’s just not budging and it’s physically draining keeping on top of everything. Please please can anyone that has had it give any advice on what they did to get rid of it. How long did it take for the spots to go? Is it normal to get more spots after treatment? Any help is much appreciated. I feel like I’m always my wits end and feeling quite helpless.

Similar. We've tried everything. Nothing works. Dh had biopsy done at hospital last week. Worried results taking 3 weeks will be inconclusive.

I honestly don’t know what more I can do at this point. I’m so mentally drained. Doctors are useless too. I feel this just won’t come to an end.

Have you tried benzyl benzoate? You can purchase from pharmacy. You treat head to toe for anyone affected. Ask the pharmacist for treatment instructions because you'll need to catch any that hatch after treatment, many of these treatments don't kill eggs only live critters. So it may be a case of several days treatment or treating once then two weeks later or similar depending on the lifecycle of the critter.

Simultaneously try cleaning entire house, both hard surfaces including ceilings, walls etc and including anything fabric, clothes, carpets etc in Virkon S, which kills just about anything.

If your home is infested though you may have to consider ripping out all the carpets and disposing of them to landfill along with your sofas and mattresses, before thoroughly cleaning the house and everything/everyone in it and starting again with items that aren't infested.

Thanks Rugby. Good God, I'm not sure I can contemplate getting rid of all carpets, sofa, mattresses, everything.

Sympathy OP we had this last year, it was hell. We think it was pemithrin resistant, we ended up being given a course of the oral treatment as well as malathiin lotion.

Yes you do get more spots after treatment, its all the eggs etc dying in you it causes a reaction, it does take few weeks to know its working.

You shouldn't need to do this, they stay alive 3 days not on a person so just make sure you quarantine your soft furnishings for 3 days.

Permethrin didn’t seem to work for us. Applied our second lot of melathion tonight going to see how that goes. We’re not itching as much as we were weeks ago but still get spots so it’s very hard to tell whether it’s working or not. I’m being very OTT with the cleaning and washing of absolutely everything. I’m so paranoid! I fear I’ll be doing the same even when the scabies has eventually gone. It’s really took its toll and just takes over everything.

No we haven’t tried benzyl benzoate yet. I didn’t realise you could get it from a pharmacy I thought it was just online.

You're welcome. I couldn't contemplate living with scabies infestation forever though. You could try diatomaceous earth sprinkled everywhere I suppose, might take longer to get rid of them, or maybe not get rid exactly, but keep the numbers down, if you don't want to start again with soft furnishings. Not being funny though, but are you happy to be going around spreading these mites everywhere? Coz that's what'll happen if you don't kill them all off completely. I wouldn't want to be shaking hands with you or having you in my house, that's for sure.

It's not a prescription medication.

Permethrin didn’t seem to work for us

Nothing will work if you're constantly getting reinfected from your environment.
