liquitabs will make your machien go all manky and gunky

fairy non bio liquid (ie not liquitab) contains no optical brightners and its those (aka bleach) that bleach your colours

Ecover contains no optiacl brightners (bleach) so wont bleach your colours either

OR other things such as soapnuts laundry balls also dont contain bleach or irritiate skin

Don't use liquid. Your machine will soon smell of clogged drains. Do a search on smelly washing machine if you don't believe me.

We use Fairy non bio (tablets!)- never found a prob with bleaching colours.

the fairy non-bio tablets ingredients say they have bleaching agents in them.....

Lots of useful information on this website especially on smelly washing machines and greasy smears on washed clothing.

Use bio powder, most will contain oxygen bleach. But this bleach is safe on most colours except dyed woollens. Wash at 30°c on a gentle cycle if you can. Use fabric softener, it protects the fibres from fading as well as softening. Line dry as much as possible, tumble drying fabrics aggitates the fibres and fades the colour. For dark jeans, never wash them unless you've slopped on them or they're really dirty. But it's best to just put them in freezer bag and freeze them, this kills any bacteria that makes them smell ripe.

I think people get scared of the word "bleach". Oxygen bleach used in washing powder is not the same as chlorine bleach found in toilet cleaner etc. It doesn't strip colour.

Colour fading is unavoidable as water treatment in the U.K. uses chlorine, so even washing in just plain water will cause fading over time.
