Does anyone have a lightweight bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner they like?

I've hated my Shark upright since day one and it's been 3 years now. I want to go back to a cylinder. I liked our Miele - we had two before the Shark, but it was too heavy to pick up. I think my preference is a cylinder vacuum but one light enough to easily pick up. I don't have the will to spend loads on a vacuum cleaner it just needs to do the job of picking up bits from wooden and carpeted floors. No pets.

I had the Shark upright but it was too heavy to push along the carpet and I have shoulder and elbow problems, I've recently bought the Hoover HL4 on the basis of the Good Housekeeping review - it is brilliant - so easy to manage.

Thanks. I'll look at that.

I cannot tell you how many sharks, dysons I’ve broken. My household just kills them.
however my bagless Miele. She just keeps on going. I’ve got the blizzard pet one and I love it. It has a hard life, it just carries on.

it looks like they do a smaller one now

I had no qualms with my mieles and the longevity and ability to do the job. I see they do smaller lighter ones. I can't justify the cost right now.

Have you looked around for the Miele? I bought an ex display one online, and saved around £150

No, I've hated all my vacuums. At this point I think it must be me, not them. But our entry level Miele was £120 a few years ago and doesn't seem super heavy.

I wonder if second hand is worth a look. Vacuum shops and individuals resell on eBay having cleaned them up, changed filters etc.

Black Friday might throw something good up?

I've hated all my vacuums too, I've been through so many, and it's the most replaced household appliance - everything else is at least a decade old. Mostly I hate them because they are heavy and difficult to move around - I have had Miele, Sebo, Dyson and Sharks - I dread to think how much I have spent - but I remain impressed with the Hoover HL4 - it's replacing a cordless shark (it's not blocked the filter has been washed and it lifts bugger all) and an upright Shark that I can barely move across the carpet. Only had the Hoover two weeks but it's light and it moves beautifully and the attachments click together so I don't wrestle to pull them apart and it only cost £139 - my expectations were low but I love it - let's hope it lasts longer than the rest.

I think they’re all a bit shit TBH. The Shark does best in reviews. I have the anti hair wrap one and it’s OK. I like the easily removable main bit that clocks off to do stairs.

It's really hard! I am another one who bought tons of different ones that claimed to be brilliant - a Shark,a Dyson and 2 different robot ones and they are all too heavy or just shite at actually hoovering. I bought a cheap one from Amazon Basics Cylinder Bagless Vacuum Cleaner range it is £50 and it really light and really good! Sorry I can't link it as I can seem to sign out but it's really really worth it

Yep, I've always found vacuum cleaners heavy and difficult to manoeuvre. Add to that the Shark (hair wrap) doesn't even pick bits up off carpet or wooden floor, despite its whistles and bells. It's probably good for a deep clean of carpets - given that it has plenty of dust in the collection chamber but I need it to pick up crumbs and bits of fluff or thread so the floor looks clean.

Off to look at the Hoovers.....

I hated my old Shark with a passion, the beater head always fell off , it hung onto a bit of grit to spit back onto the carpet once it was off , even if I kept it running . DH bought me a rotary head to use on the stairs but it was a generic not a Shark so it was a bit rubbish.

I bought a Halo Capsual (bagged and cordless ) that worked well but the hair did clog it up and I think it needs the brush replaced .

By chance I saw a Shark Stratos on offer , it is corded but a huge long cord . Plastic cannister that I am amazed at when I vacuum round what is collected
Turns into a hand held for stairs .

4.6kg so not bad weight wise

I have just brought the Henry stick, it has a bag inside though, but I prefer that as it's cleaner, it's on John Lewis at the moment with free bags, it's really powerful and has air fresher too and is only £199.

Miele triflex, it's not cheap mind
