Help me buy a lightbulb!

Please help!

I've given up making attempted purchases for light bulbs for my living room lamps and I'm currently sitting in the dark 😂. No matter how 'warm' they claim to be, none of the LED ones I've tried can create the old-style glow of a 'vintage' light bulb from my youth.

Can anyone give me a recommendation of a light bulb that isn't too 'white' or jarring? And has a warm (i.e. golden) glow but emits enough light to see by and isn't orange!?

Thanks

I'm the opposite, in a way, I like the 'Bug Light' on & it to be proper white white, but the same as you in that I want the old light, not bloody LED white.

As for Christmas Lights. I want the traditional ones, NOT LED. I have lots of sets but getting the correct replacement bulbs is impossible for the ones no longer in boxes.🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

We bought warm bulbs from dunelm and they were very yellow, too yellow for us 😁

Sorry I meant that they may be suitable for you 😁

Given that it is nearly black Friday, have a look at Philips Hue bulbs.

You can change the yellow/white levels on the "White Ambience" ones using an app.

We have our lights grouped on a room remote we've put on the wall so we can just switch the whole lot on/off/dim.

We've not tried other brands but check whether they do more than dim.

Same problem. I have a lamp that I want to give out a lovely soft glow, not as though someone has opened the fridge!
I gave up and bought some lovely Sharpie pens in shades of peach/rose and actually just colour in the lightbulbs now.
It works fine. And as the bulbs don't get warm, I see no fire risk.

This! We’ve gradually replaced every lightbulb in the house with the Hue Ambience.

Totally agree on the Xmas lights - this drives me absolutely nuts!

I’d never heard of these - thank you! I will check them out…. Can you use them in lamps too not just ceiling lights?

You need to look carefully at the colour temperature of the bulbs - measured in Kelvins. Typically warm whites are 2700K - 3200K, so you want something towards the lower end. For comparison, a candle flame is about 1850K and an old traditional incandescent bulb is around 2700K. You can get 2200K bulbs but do give a distinctive yellow glow - I have a couple of these in a pair of lamps:

Vintlux E27 Dimmable LED Filament Lamp 4W A60 265lm 2200K Karu Pear Go – Enamel Shades

Thank you! I have just ordered two xx

@Whatapickle78 we have the bulbs in standard and regular lamps (anything that takes/took what I would call an old fashioned bulb). I don't think they have made the smaller bulbs or candle bulbs yet.

We've also got them in some very old fashioned ceiling- recessed spotlight/downlighters.

It's just nice to be able to adjust lighting from your phone when you have a cat sat on your lap.
