Do you keep the cover on them when they are not turned on (heat turned off) or do you take the cover off and let the air get to it?

I've just got one as I hate using the tumble dryer on my clothes!

I can’t see why it would matter either way so I imagine it’s whatever suits you! We never bothered with a cover as I read it doesn’t make a huge difference, and you can just use a bedsheet, and I had nowhere to store one when the airer’s folded down (which never happens).

I’ve got a Lakeland heated airer. I put the cover on if it’s switched on and drying things, but if it’s switched off, I don’t have the cover on it - either because it’s folded flat against the wall, or because I’m drying things on it without heat and obviously it would hinder their drying if the air can’t circulate. The cover is only helpful if it’s trapping the heat.

I take the cover off when I unload it, and leave it off until I next put clothes on? Or do you mean you've turned the heat off but are leaving clothes on it?

I tend to take them off as soon as they're dry because there's another load that needs to go on, so it's rarely out of use November-March.

Thank you all! I was meaning when the clothes are still a bit damp. I had it on last night before bed but then was out this morning and they were still a bit wet so I didn't unload!

I know I'm over thinking it, but if I leave the cover on when it's not turned on will they get musty/less likely to dry?

Yes, they won’t dry with the cover on if it’s turned off. Either leave it turned on for longer, or take the cover off for the last bit. Without the heat on, it’s just a normal clothes airer - but likely more crowded.

I find it helps to go and rearrange things a bit when they’re nearly dry - allows the damp corners space to dry out. If you can be bothered.

SnapdragonToadflax · 05/11/2024 17:01

Can't you just leave it on overnight? It really doesn't cost much.

I've just loaded up our airer with a wash - they'll be dry by morning.

PrincessOfPreschool · 05/11/2024 17:17

Mine either has clothes drying on it, or clothes waiting to be folded so it never needs covering!

TheNuthatch · 05/11/2024 17:28

Yes, cover on if the heat is on. Cover off if using as an unheated airer.
I have a Lakeland one with the lakeland cover. I usually wash in the mornings so I leave it switched on and covered for the rest of the day. Late evening, I switch it off, remove the cover but leave the laundry on there to air overnight in case there are any damp bits. Mine is always fully loaded (every bar) and I never rearrange anything. It's always completely dry by the next morning.

NoCarbsForMe · 06/11/2024 03:08

Why is it not on if the clothes are wet?

autumngirl714 · 06/11/2024 08:26

Thank you all!

Ahh I was a bit nervous leaving it on all night incase it over heated or set on fire but I'm thinking that's probably the best thing to do other wise it'll takes ages when full! 🙈

(Those damp clothes will stay damp unless you leave it on longer ime).

OfDragonsDeep · 06/11/2024 08:39

Ooh I want one of these. Are they worth it? I’m fed up of going out to the tumble dryer to find stuff all tangled up with each other and still damp after it’s finished.
