Getting kids to tidy/tidying hacks?

My kids are 8 and 6 and ive suddenly become acutely aware that they think we are their servants, so we are trying to get them to take a bit of (age appropriate) responsibility. I don't want to exchange tidying for pocket money because I really want them so take ownership and understand that in life no one pays you to clean up after yourself...

So today we have instigated a "10 minute tidy up", 10 minutes timed where everyone in the family (2 kids, 2 parents) have to tidy the house each day. Worked out this will equate to one person doing just over 4.5 hours of tidying a week.

First day went ok, expecting a mutiny as the week progresses....

Anyway would very much welcome any hacks or tips for keeping the house tidy with kids of this sort of age! Thanks 😊

I notice that you haven't come back yet @Cheeseandcrackers40? I'm hoping that the little mutineers haven't got you tied up in the pantry...

😂😂.

Thanks for checking in... general shit tippery seems to be reducing...today they tidied up after themselves completely unprompted by us which was (embarrassingly) a complete first!

Heard of a good hack the other day though....Someone I know said that when their kid was a toddler they were watching something on the tv and the mission impossible theme came on. Their toddler immediately started running around and tidying up! Apparently they played it in nursery during tidy up time so had essentially created a tidying sleeper agent.

Anyway as ever any hints and tips for not living in squalor appreciated 😬

I try (and fail) to implement the put something away before you get something new out rule. I think if you stick to it it should work I'm just rubbish back sticking to things!
