Regarding pick up dog feces as ad hoc

Hello,

I am having trouble with this: this job description or contract mention anything about cleaning dog beds and picking up their feces.
my employer sees this as ad hoc.
I looked up the definition and one of them refers to as “non repeatable”.
I am afraid she would make this a breach of contract.
I meed advise urgently before that happens!!!!

Excuse the typos. I am very sad and I have been humiliated several times in this job.

‘Ad hoc’ to me means occasional, or when needed. Ie, so it may not be all the time, but if you come across sone poo that needs cleaning up, then you clean it up.

Yeah this is how I’d take it as well. Doesn’t beed done every day but if it’s there you pick it up as needed. Same with cleaning dog beds, I don’t clean my dogs bed every day but rather weekly.

What is the issue OP?

TheFlis · 28/10/2024 17:57

I interpret as hoc as meaning as required. So if there is dog poop in the garden you pick it up, but there won’t necessarily be any there every time.

Mamioliva · 28/10/2024 18:02

She wants me to do it every day!!!
is not part of a housekeeper job according to UKHA.
She never told me I had to do it.
In the video interview she never told me that. I wouldn’t have accepted this.

Of course it’s there every time. Morning when I come in and afternoon when I leave the job. I live outside the job’s gate.

Is it in your contract?

Ad Hoc basically means as needed, so whenever it is needed.

A housekeeper job is one thing but what is specifically in your contract of employment is another, if you have accepted it in a contract then it is part of YOUR job.

bugalugs45 · 28/10/2024 18:10

Assuming the dog poo is outside in garden ,I wouldn't think this would fall under the normal housekeeping duties .
However you've said that you wouldn't have taken the job if you'd known so therefore the obvious solution is to quit or at least tell your employer than you're not happy and see what they say ? There's no right or wrong in this I don't think .

chattyness · 28/10/2024 18:28

Nobody likes picking up dog poop, just ask her for some clarity i.e where she wants it putting once picked up (bagged and in the household waste or does she have a special dog poop bin) Is she providing you with disposable gloves, shovel, dog poo bags & hand sanitiser for this task, is her dog wormed regularly? Then remind yourself you're getting paid for doing this and horrible as it is, you do get used to it. If it's too much to bear look for another job then quit

NotEnoughRoom · 28/10/2024 18:42

I would not expect a housekeeper role to include regular pet care tasks unless explicitly discussed at interview and included in contract.

if she is expecting you to pick up dog faeces twice a day every day, then it’s not an “ad hoc” task.

what was discussed re pets when you interviewed? If you think she is adding regular tasks that were outside the original agreements, you can say that you aren’t going to do them, or say that she needs to pay you more if you are going to carry on.

in turn, she could agree to this, or give you notice to end your employment.

It’s very frustrating for you, but you may be better off looking for another job?

thinkfast · 28/10/2024 18:46

Ad hoc means as and when needed. If it's part of the job description and you don't want to do it, sounds like time to look for a new job.

coldcallerbaiter · 28/10/2024 18:50

You wouldn’t pick up human poo so why should you pick up the dogs. Disgusting task, and it is their problem not yours. I would be looking for a new job asap. Dirty people with dog shit garden.

Mamioliva · 28/10/2024 20:06

No. It is not in the job description or in my contract.
her ways are to keep adding tasks as she wishes and expect me to accept them silently.
I did not agree to that or is in my contract.
she is this way; pretending to be aloof or something.

Thank you all. I feel stronger now to say no.
She could find anyone. Why did she chose me????
I have more diplomas that she have teeth or years on this Earth.
People to think of themselves as UHNW families should behave as such.
I didn’t expect this lak of finesse and class, really.
I am in shock more than anything.
Thank you all ☺️

Mrsttcno1 · 28/10/2024 20:09

Well it depends how much you want the job really. If it is something she wants done and you refuse to do it then she’ll just let you go and find someone who will.

Screamingabdabz · 28/10/2024 20:12

I wouldn’t stoop to clearing animal shit either op. I’d be looking for another position where you are not treated like this.

AgnesX · 28/10/2024 20:17

Tell her no. I don't expect my lady to clean up after my cat (furball bile or accident) and have said if I'm not at home to clear up I'll pay her extra.

It doesn't sound like you're happy there.

Wigglypasta · 29/10/2024 08:11

It sounds like the OP employer put something like 'other ad hoc requests as required' in the contract and is now saying picking up dog poo falls under ad hoc requests. Unless the contract stated 'picking up dog poo ad hoc', then I think it is unreasonable to expect the op to clear up the dog poo every day.
