Can I bleach my white bras to remove stains?

I have a bunch of plain white bras for everyday wear that I hand wash, they're my favourite bras because they fit so well. I was soaking them in a bucket and I have no idea how or why but a bunch of small black speckled marks appeared on all of them, it almost resembles black mould 😔. It's so weird, I was washing them in the bathroom and haven't had anything unusual in there, and I live alone! My only thought is that the water board have been working on something a few houses up and some debris came through, which would be scary if true because it's the drinking water supply. I've tried using oxygen bleach on them and it's lightened the marks but they're still there.

My last thought before binning them is to soak them in a bit of household bleach. If I go ahead how much should I use and for how long?

Will this just ruin the bras? And is it dangerous to mix it with oxygen bleach (obviously I've rinsed that off but there probably is some residue).

Thanks for any help.

Are you sure it isn’t mould? How long have they been soaking? If they’re going in the bin anyway if you can’t fix it’s definitely worth a go. I would put them in a bowl with Milton liquid, and a really good sprinkle of napisan and then add water from the kettle. This gets almost anything out! Soak for 24 hours and then rinse and see how they look. With bras I think the main reason for hand washing is to avoid the wire being bashed about in the machine so the hot water shouldn’t damage them. I don’t measure it, just squirt a really good amount of Milton in, then shake the napisan over, be generous!

Sunshine (if you can find any!) is the other good thing for killing mould - and I suspect it it mould.

Don't use household bleach on them. It will yellow and weaken any elastic/stretchy bits.

Ooh, differing opinions on the use of bleach. I haven't done anything yet as I've been a bit under the weather.

I just left them overnight soaking which I don't think is that long, but I do think you're right and it must be mould. Unfortunately it's a windowless bathroom which I loathe. You need fresh air circulating in a bathroom!
