I'm Scared of my Pyrolitic Oven!

I have a Neff built-in oven that's just under 3 years old. It has a pyrolitic cleaning function, which I've never used.

I'm nervous of using it because I'm worried that the extreme heat might damage the surrounding and adjacent kitchen units, which were only fitted 18 months ago when we had the whole kitchen refurbished.

Does anyone else have an oven with this feature? Do you use it? Has the heat ever affected the cupboards?

I'm in two minds as to whether to use the pyrolitic function or just use a bottle of Oven Pride or pay someone to come and clean it.

The irony is that I paid a fortune for the oven because it had the cleaning feature!

Does anyone have any experiences to share, any tips or advice?

Just use it! I've done mine several times and there was no damage. To be honest I would buy another though as it doesn't clean as good as I thought it would and still needs cleaning!

I use the pyrolitic a couple of times a year - if you have half price electricity days wait for one of those. Don't forget to take the shelves and their supports out as they can warp.

It won't affect anything around it, my oven is head/chest height built in with cupboards above and below.

I have a Miele oven with this Pyro feature. I take out the shelves and metal racks and put them in the dishwasher on an intensive wash. Then I switch on the oven and leave it to work its' magic. It's great, the oven is very clean and once it has cooled down I just wipe out the oven with a damp cloth.

I use the pyro programme regularly and the surrounding housing and units are just fine, not damaged, not warped, just the same as usual.

Thanks for for the replies, which are reassuring.

Well you don't open the oven when it's on so the heat is contained. But you have to remove the racks and the side panels that the racks slide on to

We used to have one of these but the glass blew and shattered all over the kitchen when it was cleaning. Wasn’t a Neff but it was enough to put me off another!

I had one years ago. I didn’t realise how it worked until after I’d used it a few times. It just leave a neat little pile of ash at the bottom, at least mine did. Zero damage to what were quite cheap and cheerful cabinets around it.

I have one and use it regularly. It makes a lot of smoke so I open all the external doors and windows, but it cleans the oven brilliantly. Once when it was on, my very kind neighbour emailed me to ask if my house was on fire, which I thought was hilarious.

The important things is to take the racks out and the light bulb.

The door will lock when it's running, so you can't accidentally open it.

I do not think you need to remove the light bulb.

I have neff ovens and use the cleaning function regularly. It's brilliant! No damage to cabinets and it works really well. I try to do it on a dry day though as you need to open doors and windows.

I can’t be arsed to use the function on my neff oven either because the thought of taking the side bracket shelf bits out is too much. I’d rather just clean the oven.
