Henry / hetty hoover

I have a Hetty hoover which has impressive suction from the tube but I find that when I attach any of the attachments for cleaning hard floor / carpet, there appears to be no suction at all that can be felt from the bottom and it’s very ineffective in picking up.
I have tried searching online but the only advice I found seems to relate to a general lack of suction (mine is fine until I put on an attachment), or blame a blockage which I can find no evidence of. I have tried adjusting the suction valve on the hose which didn’t help.

Is there anyone who has a Henry / Hetty who can advise whether this is a common problem or whether I should expect to feel suction when touching the bottom of the carpet brush?

I have been cleaning the carpet today on my hands and knees using the end of the hose which is effective but not a long term hovering solution!

thank you!

My Henry works with the attachments on.

I’ve had a Henry and a Hetty and they were both amazing, so I don’t know. Is everything ok in the top black part, are all the filters clean? I’d take it to bits and give it a good clean.

I have this too so I only ever use the pipes

I’ve taken it apart and can’t see anything wrong with it. I’ve only had it a few months. Also tried a different attachment which is a turbo cleaner and the soft brush one and again, as soon as I put the attachment on, I can’t feel the suction.

For those of you who say yours is fine, when you have the big hard floor/ carpet attachment on, if you touch the bottom of it, can you feel the suction?

Yes can definitely feel suction, it's hard to move sometimes, eg on a rug, as the suction is so great.

I've got the 3-in-1 George there;s a twist collar thingie on the tube that I cam open or close to increase or decrease the suction.
Is there anything like that on the Henry ?

Hi all - I'm an Arthritic 68yr old who does mos of the cleaning as my wife has Fatigue/Fibro etc...
We've had a Numatic 'Charles' for years which I found hard to carry up the stairs so after a lot of research we took delivery of a Hetty yesterday (27/12/24).
No problem with the many attachments etc but I did find the pipe, because it's in so many pieces, keeps becoming disconnected? In the end I was bending down to almost the floor as the flat bar (and even the crevice) cause one of the upper pipes to become disconnected. I really pushed them in as well.
In the end I went downstairs and replaced the many pipes with the Charles pipe which is much longer and just has 2 sections rather than up to 4 or 5 with the Hetty. This will mean I vacuum down with the Charles (or the Miele when I'm desperate - although that is technically my wife's as it was bought when she was able to vacuum and for some reason I'm not allowed to use it longer than 5min bursts in case I 'wear it out' - it was one of the last ones before our friends in the EU regulated for weaker motors for climate etc) with it's pipe then transfer the pipe upstairs for the Hetty (which is definitely better than taking the whole Charles up - 1.5Kg heavier)...has anyone had trouble with these standard pipes at all?
Cheers

Steve Smith
