That's it !
They just don't feel nice !
To be fair ...I am sometimes impatient...and take them out when the lights are still on...
Could that be the problem?

Try to wait til lights off? That will tell you...

PlumpCatIsBestCat · 07/10/2024 02:22

You might be using too much detergent

bizzey · 07/10/2024 02:27

Ohh ..
I use a capsule ..

frozenkimchi · 07/10/2024 02:29

Do you mean a laundry capsule in the tumble dryer?

Fraaahnces · 07/10/2024 02:32

Does it have softener in it? Generally softener builds up in the washing machine. It’s supposed to be the worst thing ever for both clothes and fabric. I would try putting a cupful of vinegar in the rinse cycle and handful of baking soda in the drum and putting it on a hot wash (maybe more than once) then once that’s done, clear out the drain in the washing machine. Gross job, but it needs doing at frequent intervals. Put down a tonne of old towels. I would even contemplate doing the baking soda and vinegar trick again… Then stop using anything with softener.

Ohh ..
I use a capsule ..

If you are using that on a quick wash it might not be getting all the detergent out.

We had a slimy laundry using too much detergent (eg DP just bung it in, who measures 🙄) and even when fully dried the clothes just felt a bit weird.

I now use a very small amount of liquid detergent now and rarely use the short cycle and it's stopped.

bizzey · 07/10/2024 02:52

By deduction....It is the quick wash and capsule that is the problem then 🤦..

Makes sense !
They don't tell you that on the adverts 😂..

So ..in a quick wash (15 min fresh) ..maybe just pop a bit of powder detergent in drawer ?)

Too much fabric conditioner makes things slimy (or those fragrance pellets). Don't mix bicarb & vinegar though, they just cancel each other out (simple chemistry acid & base). One or the other

bizzey · 07/10/2024 02:53

Need to re think my 15 mins wash 😂

Cookerhood · 07/10/2024 02:57

I think powder is always best (put it in the bottom of the machine, nit in the drawer). 15 mins probably isn't getting rinsed properly.

yeesh · 07/10/2024 03:03

15 mins won’t clean anything lol

bizzey · 07/10/2024 03:13

It was a freshen up wash as opposed to dirty !

OP posts:
bizzey · 07/10/2024 03:15

🤔🤔. Re wash everything again then ?

Not my washing ... which makes it worse !
It is mother's ! 😁

What’s a freshen up wash? What can you do in 15 mins other than add water, detergent, tumble, and spin? That sounds like a wash! But a crap one as it only took 15 mins!

tinglingallover · 07/10/2024 04:00

I have a 20 minute wash on my machine. It's literally just a rinse and spin which I use when I've left something sitting in the machine too long and went to freshen it up.

You can't possibly wash something properly on a 15 minute cycle.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 07/10/2024 04:05

A 15 min wash is only going to be a rinse and spin. Detergent definitely not needed.

Copperoliverbear · 07/10/2024 04:45

15 minutes is really to short, 30 minutes to 45 minutes minimum darks, I do whites on 1 hour wash.
Greys ect 45 minutes.

unsync · 07/10/2024 06:25

Quick wash is only supposed to have a couple of items, not a full load. It's for doing an item of clothing you want to wear same day.

Pat888 · 07/10/2024 06:31

A capsule is designed to do a full wash. It is also going to have to clean v dirty clothes and using very hard water - so if you don't have a full load, don't have dirty clothes and have soft water it is probably loads of detergent that isn't really needed.

braaaiiins · 07/10/2024 06:33

15 minutes quick wash is for a couple of items and should only have a half dose of detergent on my machine. I use it all the time (at 20°) and definitely notice if I'm heavy handed with the soap.

Moonshiners · 07/10/2024 06:39

Washing clothes a lot ruins them. I've never heard of a freshen up wash but presume the clothes aren't really dirty. Only wash them when they are. Most clothes (apart from underwear) can be worn more than once or twice unless you are particularly sweaty!

Bestyearever2024 · 07/10/2024 06:41

The only 15 minute cycle I have on my machine is a rinse only cycle. Mind you, my machine is quite old 🙄

Sassysoonwins · 07/10/2024 07:09

I use my 15 min wash all the time, or 20 mins if I want 40 degrees. It's really useful for DCs sports items that they've forgetten they need now or a top with a few things on.

TheNuthatch · 07/10/2024 09:14

I would use soda crystals (£2 at Tesco) and white vinegar if you have some. Bicarb + vinegar cancel each other out so its pointless using them together.
Soda crystals are an excellent degreaser and water softener.
If the clothes are very slimy, soak them in warm water and soda crystals for a while. I use the bath for this.
If you've got build up in your machine add 500g soda crystals to the drum and run a hot wash whilst the clothes are soaking.
Then rewash the clothes with powder or liquid detergent on a full length wash. I would also add another scoop of soda crystals to the detergent drawer. You can use white vinegar instead of softener if you have some for even better result.

My washing machine has a 15 min quick wash cycle, but I only use it if I need to get one or two items washed in a hurry. I think the maximum amount is 2kg for my machine. It's advised to only use a small amount of liquid detergent on this cycle, never pods.

It's better to use the longer cycles of around 1-2 hours when washing clothes, you can set it to lower temps if you want to save energy. I would advise to run a hot wash once per week (great for towels and bedding) to prolong the life of your washing machine.
