A nice smelling home

My home is clean and tidy but not fresh smelling. What do you use to keep your home smelling lovely. I feel I need to change my products possibly? But don't want to fall for an advert (Purdue & Figg style!)

I open the windows as I don’t want to breathe in chemicals.

I open windows too, but I live rurally so all too often the ‘fresh air’ smells of manure. Sometimes ‘chemicals’ are preferable!
Do you use chemical free cleaning products?

Me too, I can smell that they have been spreading today, so I just shut them again.

What chemical free cleaning products are you using? Genuinely interested!

Same here. We've swapped the smell of a busy city for the smell of poo! Grin

I have an electric oil diffuser with some natural oils:)

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 29/09/2024 17:23

our house smells of whatever I'm cooking, flowers or fresh air. I love the smell of lilies. I don't generally do candles, plugs in or stuff like that although I did buy some pumpkin spice reed diffusers in a splurging fit. And I have a St Eval sea salt candle which I burn when enjoying a particularly lazy and indulgent bath.

if I'm feeling snazzy i do one of these, I love the clean scent of the lemon and rosemary

Rural Scotland here. Windows often open but I need heat in my life so they can't be open all the time... And as we head into winter, the fires will be on and windows closed.

I use Method products and occasionally other things when the local Tesco (only supermarket for 20+ miles) doesn't have it.

Google Nancy Birtwhistle. You can follow her on Instagram. She has lots of green, clean and sustainable cleaning products you can make. Her multi purpose spray is great, really is multi purpose and you can scent it with your choice of natural oils. I love that I clean my own house all over with a safe (no chemicals) cleaner that smells great.

Seems to me an endless pot of warm mulled wine will keep your home smelling cosy and autumnal and you comfortably supplied with a nice beverage...

Autumnlife · 30/09/2024 18:19

I open windows daily even in the winter I don’t use chemicals to clean I steam mop all the floors and damp dust. I love fresh flowers so buy a couple of cheap bunches from Aldi now and again.

outforawalkbiatch · 30/09/2024 18:25

Oh I'm a scent person
Valentte Reed diffusers in the bathroom
Wax melts
Windows open
Method floor cleaner
Fabulosa multi surface or the flash French soap

I live alone so I can please myself with scents without anyone complaining! My dad hates "smelly stuff" and all he ever says is "it's nice in here"

Hayley1256 · 30/09/2024 18:30

Reed diffusers and wax melts.

Candles. Diffusers. Lovely Method Cleaning products. Surf washing powder and lots of fabric conditioner. Clothes hang on an overhead dryer when not being line dried or tumbled. Makes the house smell of washing powder.
Cooking from scratch helps. Making my own bread does too. Sending Coffee beans through our coffee machine.
I think the average delicate flower Mumsnetter would probably expire of sensory overload upon stepping into my house but I love it.

rocketgal · 30/09/2024 18:38

I open the windows in the morning while we're downstairs having breakfast/ getting kids ready for school so that the rooms get a freshen up. Turn back the beds to give them an airing before making. Hang washing over the banister which gives the house a nice clean smell. Fresh flowers in hall way and lounge. M&S cleaning products. Always use toilet bleach after every number 2. Husband is religious about emptying bin or double bagging because of food smells. Don't leave dirty washing in the sink, straight in dishwasher so no lingering food smells in the sink. No candles or reed diffusers for me as I find they give me a headache

I would be quite happy! Plug in things are the only ones I don't like

Fontainebleau007 · 30/09/2024 18:45

Open windows
Hoover and dust every other day
Yankee diffuser
Yankee candles
Mopped floors (usually lemon or citrus smelling)
Lenor washing (love the new musk one)
