Cleaning inside windows

No matter how I clean them, they very soon look dirty again. I’ve tried window cleaner spray, washing up liquid and a Karcher, white vinegar. Nothing seems to last. What should I try next?

I use a standard glass cleaner with kitchen roll or bloo roll. As someone previously said, don't do it in sunny days

I spent my heavy housework years searching for an answer to this most hated, time consuming and never totally successful task. These are the holy grail:

You just need a bit of warm water, no product. Except if the windows are filthy (greasy handprints, slobber, etc) squirt a bit of cheap white vinegar into a couple of litres of warm water.

These are the original ecloths, they are trade marked, cheap copies abound.

Fab for mirrors too.

@ClaudiaWinklepanda
Do you need two Clouseau Minkeys, one wet and then a dry one for buffing? Or does using just the damp one still leave the window streak free?

No buffing required! They really are brilliant. Wring the cloth out really well, wipe, done.

Revolutionary! That sounds amazing. I hate cleaning windows.

Although... <whispers> aren't we supposed to be avoiding microfibre cloths because they're environmentally damaging?

Sorry to resurrect this thread but the other day I was using methylated spirit to clean some sticky tape off my window frame. The bottle said it was good for cleaning windows, I gave it a go and it was amazing! Removed all streaks and dried almost instantly! How are you getting on with your windows OP? Do you have any meths in the cupboard?

@ClaudiaWinklepanda Yes I heard they basically shed microplastic like nothing else 😬. But they also last for years so I assume they're less damaging overall than single-use products like wipes? I think we will start to see more natural fibre cleaning cloths on the market, perhaps feather dusters will make a comeback

DustyLee123 · 05/10/2024 15:12

Ive got some meths, will give it a try.
ive had a good result with the milky too.

I usually do a glass cleaner and cloth then dry/buff with kitchen towel. They usually look fine for a sensible length of time. Choose the right light to clean in too as some lights are easier to see missed streaks than others.

Apparently dry kitchen roll can scratch glass. I used soapy water and vinegar and dry off with old tea linen tea towels.
