Maggots in house!

Hi all, wasn’t sure where to post this, I struggle with mental health and a few weeks ago I left a rubbish bag full of rubbish at my front door for the day and had a fly in the house at the time…the fly must’ve laid eggs as a few days later I found a few maggots by the front door and kitchen floor I killed all the ones I found and deep cleaned the house I hadn’t seen anymore since and thought I’d been successful however today, around 2 weeks later, ive come downstairs to see at least 15 flys most between my kitchen window and blinds which i managed to get out by opening the window but there’s still a few flying round the house. I’m now panicking that any flys remaining in the house will lay eggs and the cycle of having maggots will go on which will have a massive toll on me mentally. My house isn’t filthy just messy with clothes, sometimes I leave the washing up etc…I feel the need to scrub the whole house with bleach even the walls. What’s the best way to resolve this? Currently have windows open to try and get flys out but rather paranoid they’ve laid more eggs never thought leaving a single fly in the house would escalate into such a problem.

Flies do not like bleach. I recommend regularly cleaning the kitchen areas and sanitizing the countertops daily. Keep open food away and have the floors clean regularly. Give the flies a reason to get out, they get out. If you give them a reason to stay, they stay!

Just keep cleaning and they should bugger off. I know it's hard when you're struggling with MH.

I would try and get the dishes done every night, put the rubbish out and give the kitchen a clean every evening. It will help to deter the flies, and you will feel so much better getting up to a clean kitchen in the mornings. Consider it a gift to your morning self! It sounds like the flies may have laid eggs elsewhere and you havent yet found the source. Maybe try and have a good tidy up if you can manage it, just in case the actual problem lies elsewhere. It's much easier and faster to clean if you keep tidy. Good luck

Forgot to say, take your kitchen bin outside and give it a really good wash and disinfect it. They may have laid eggs on the actual bin.

Fly eggs are like little yellow patches of lines in a pile shudder
So look out for those and if you see them immediately dispose in tissue, in the loo and flush! Don't bin!

They also hate citrus - we burn a cheap citrus candle in the kitchen for a bit each evening and I second the cleaning the kitchen and making sure you wash up each night.
I always feel so much better when the pots are all washed and the kitchen is clean, especially when I get up in the morning.
I don't have a dishwasher but I tend to pre-fill the washing up bowl with hot soapy water as I'm cooking and throw any used stuff in and let it soak as we eat and then I wash up as soon as we've eaten and now it's such a routine that I don't really think about it and it's done before I know it.

One way to source maggots is to see if there are any odd/unpleasant/unusual smells anywhere in the house - a few weeks ago, I was unwell and hadn't cleaned the kitchen for two days (had barely used it but had fed the cat in there) and I could smell a weird smell that I actually thought was maybe the sink drain but as I cleaned and moved stuff, I was horrified to find maggots behind the bin!
Like you, I immediately got rid of them and cleaned everywhere and the smell was gone but I also took my bin out and cleaned it with hot water and Zoflora disinfectant and left it outside for a few hours and I also used a draincleaner to clean my drains.

Don't feel bad or "dirty" about having maggots in your house - in this recent weather, the vile things can literally appear anywhere in such a short space of time.

If you've looked everywhere, just give your drains a quick clean with something like Mr Muscle Foaming Drain Cleaner as they could be somewhere in there.

I would spray fly spray if there's any still hanging around
