Appliances insurance cover

Hi. Trying to get an idea of how much people are paying to cover all their kitchen appliances.
Have been with British Gas for years and paying £45 per month to cover up to 8 appliances I think (dishwasher/washing machine/etc).
Difficult to get quotes as some of our appliances are a few years old and I can't give proof of purchase.
With British Gas we get free repairs or a contribution towards a replacement if beyond repair.
We also get electrical/plumbing cover but subject to an excess.
Any comparisons please?

Do your appliances break frequently? Do you get £540 per year out of it? If they don’t It would be better to pay £45 per month into a high interest savings account and then use that amount towards buying new ones/getting them fixed (and paying for it on a cash back credit card ;) )

I guess most of them are a few years old so approaching the time when they are going to start costing money.
We recently had £300 from them towards a new fridge as the old one couldn't be mended.

£45 a month?!

We have Bosch appliances and paid a one-off fee of about £70-80 per appliance to extend their warranties to five years. Don’t know what we’ll do after that. £45 a month is bananas.

£45 a month seems very expensive.

Domestic & General offer better cover than that, they cover all repairs and replace like for like if the appliance can't be repaired for anywhere between £2 and £5 ish per appliance.

Thanks.

It also covers plumbing and electrical repairs.

I think it used ti be quite cheap but has crept up over the years and I haven't paid attention.

Not sure if we could get insurance on the existing appliances now as I can't remember when bought but will look into it.

I recommend Zest Plan, been with them for years and they are always really helpful and quick to get someone out. Better prices than D&G and British Gas too. My mum switched over too and it’s so much cheaper than her BG insurance was, with better replacements policy.

Gud to know, I was with them previously and had an awful experience and had issues at the time of emergency before going to Smart Cover for my Boiler cover and Home emergency cover. I think pricing difference of few pounds doesn’t make a difference when in emergency. As you age with the company discount comes anyway.

Thanks for the rec. zest just gave me a brand new 55” LG tv when my old smaller one couldn’t be repaired so I’d definitely recommend them and they are always very helpful.

bit put off the one you recommended by this

Unless you're living on the absolute breadline with zero savings, I'd just put the premiums in an ISA and use that to replace any applicances that break.

Silverbirchleaf · 01/08/2025 18:25

I’ve never paid monthly. As previous person said, do you get £540 value each year. That’s equivalent to one new ‘white good’ per year. How many do you buy?

col81 · 01/08/2025 19:05

Ouch I don’t spend anywhere near that. It costs me about £180 a year to cover my whole kitchen; and I probably have a couple of repairs or services a year. Then if they can’t fix it the new appliance or tv is just a bonus and saves me about 500 quid. Horses for courses but it makes sense for me.
