Found mould on baskets

Hello all

ive just returned from a longish trip away to find my cellar/laundry room (rental house) smells mouldy. I noticed damp patches on the walls and discovered my very nice wicker laundry baskets from John Lewis have grey and yellow (!) mould growing all over them. I have no idea how to clean them to save them and how to clean the cellar properly? I’d love any advice or help. My property manager has dementia and is no help and the landlord lives abroad and is still working to get a bathroom fixed 2 years after move in.

Chuck the baskets. There is no way of saving them.

I used a toothbrush with distilled white vinegar on some wicker placemats that had mould growing… worked a treat. You could then leave them out in the sun for good measure!

Yuk, wouldn't keep them even if you cleaned them. You need to ventilate after cleaning, and probably run a dehumidifier.

Forgot to add, if you are paying rent then surely you are entitled to have access to a competent property manager who should be consulted?

Throw them and claim from the landlord. Surely you need a contact who doesn’t have dementia??

I agree but we’ve burned so badly in the past I’m hesitant to report anything else. We’ve had so many issues and I worry if we keep reporting they will evict us :(

How annoying.
I'd get them in the sink with some hot water and bio washing powder and give them a good scrub with a brush - not a soak and leave to dry outside.
Worth a try

I am not sure I'd want yo keep them but if you do I'd spray them with milton , let them dry then spray them again .
Regarding the rest of the damp get a dehumidifier and hound your landlord.
