Whirly line help!

Firstly apologies for the world’s most boring question, but is there a best way of hanging washing on your whirly line?
I’ve always had a straight one but now have no room in my garden so have a whirly one and no clue as to the best way of hanging. Is is pants and socks towards the middle then bigger things on the outside, or will they get no sun that way? Or smaller things on the outside? Or does it even matter and I need to get a life?! I have two boys and a DH who all do sports and an out of control charity shopping habit so there is a LOT of washing! 😂Thanks!

I always put smaller items in the centre and work my way out. If I have lots to hang , I hang the items between the lines, not along the lines.

I do underwear in the inner lines and larger things to the outside. Towels on the longer lines at the outside. With Sheets/duvet covers I tend to form a sail by attaching one end a couple of lines in and the attach the other end to the outer line and then it billows (unfortunately it sometimes catches leaves and seeds from the big trees behind us too)

We have a large Brantano one that collapses. I tend to use a socktopus (ikea) for socks and pants and hang them on the edge. I tend to hang on every other line and tend to hand sheets and towels on the larger outer areas.

Hope that helps!

I did the same as @Theoldwoman .

IMPORTANT HEALTH WARNING -
if you have one of this whirly lines you can remove when not in use, be exceptionally careful of the metal ‘docking hole’ bit in the lawn when playing in the garden with bare feet.

I had a circular scar on the sole of my foot for years.

dementedpixie · 17/08/2024 11:21

I dont hang on every line and leave a line gap between the items e..g. hang on inner line, leave the line in front free and then hang on the next line out so I alternate them so there is space between them

dementedpixie · 17/08/2024 11:23

I also have a socky peggy thing to hang socks, dhs fitness gloves, myzone strap, etc

chattyness · 17/08/2024 11:24

I used to put smaller things in the middle and larger stuff on the outside but I never liked it because it wasn't efficient, it was horrible to load and even though we get lots of wind it didn't dry the inner stuff very well so I went back to straight lines. We've only got a small garden so went for the pull out type thar retract out of the way when not in use, so much better.

This is similar to the pegs for socks that I use

Ooh my sort of thread Grin

I hang underwear on the inside, then medium sized clothing on the middle, bigger clothes/trousers etc hanging around the edge. I leave a row between each, and have 2 IKEA "octopuses" for socks!

I love washing Grin

I have several Ikea octopus hangers, all socks and pant etc go on them, then I hang them from the arms of the line (mine has channels that the hook fits nicely into). Then bigger items spread evenly around the line bits. If I am doing bedding I always put it on the outside, spread out as much as possible.

Thank you all! Soctopus has been deployed and all your excellent advice heeded :)
One massive load and king sheets on. Well happy.

For the duvet cover I'd maybe put a 3rd peg to hold up the middle sections
