Dried bloodstain, pink fabric sofa

It's only small, but it's dry - has definitely been there for 10 days, if not more... it's from my dog, who is on heat. She sometimes licks her bloodstains (sorry, tmi, I know) so not sure if that's why it has a "border" or if this is just how the blood has settled into the fabric?

Paracetamol packet for scale.

Last time I tried to get a bloodstain out of upholstery, I only succeeded in creating a larger but more "watered down" stain if you know what I mean, so not leaving it up to chance/Google this time!

Not my sofa so the stakes are higher 😅

Dr. Beckmann bloodstain removal (Amazon) will likely help! And remember, cold water rinse on blood, not warm or hot water. Always cold.
In the meantime, also try making a bicarbonate of soda paste with just a bit of water and leave it to sit on the stain.

Water has to be cold, or use an ice cube. Any warmth and it sets the protein in the blood. I usually find that ice cold water and soap or washing up liquid works fine, as long as the water is really cold the blood comes out fairly easily. Use a really clean cloth too to do the removing and try and dab, rather than rub.

You might want to test whatever you are thinking of using on the back of the sofa, just to make sure it doesn't lift the colour out of the fabric.

Thank you! I need it gone by tomorrow so I can't get my hands on Dr. Beckmann in time (but I know the one and often use it as a pre-laundry wash).

Should it be a specific type of cloth?

Just to add, if you can open the seat cover put another cloth under the stain to stop the cushion itself getting wet.

How's it going @stainnotagain? Have you managed to get the blood out?

stainnotagain · 14/08/2024 20:57

I didn't have much time but I used the ice cube, cloth and dish soap method as that's what I had to hand - it's not completely gone but faded enough that you can't really see it unless you're looking for it!! Thank you!!!

@MargoLivebetter sorry, forgot to tag you. Might go for round two on it using your method again - but it's definitely done the trick for now (and most importantly, hasn't made it worse like last time!

That's good news. It sounds like you've managed to get most of it out. Glad it worked.
