Pillowcase ended up inside duvet cover

Beccibops · 06/08/2024 07:12

Despite turning cover inside out and fastening up the buttons’ somehow a pillowcase ended up inside the duvet cover at the end of the wash. I’m pretty fragile at the moment and have been experiencing some mental health issues and ocd. My bedding hadn’t been changed in 3 weeks and it’s been hot etc. I now feel like everything is not clean as perhaps the dirt from the pillowcase couldn’t be cleaned and rinsed properly and made everything else dirty in the process.

I really don’t know how things work

I don’t have spare bedding at the moment and was relying on this wash so I could actually get some sleep.

I washed everything (duvet cover, 2 pillow cases, fitted sheet) at 60 degrees for 3 hours

It's fine. The water went all the way through, as did the detergent and all the dirt/sweat was washed away.

Kipperthedawg · 06/08/2024 07:15

It's all clean. In fact the pillowcase inside the duvet probably acted to agitate more in the wash so it is cleaner than it would have been.

It is a mystery though and kudos for you doing the buttons up before the wash.

Useruserdoubleuser · 06/08/2024 07:16

Yes it’s fine. Mine are always doing that and I don’t give it a minutes thought. Is annoying when the damp lump drops out after a tumble dry though.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2024 07:17

The water and detergent will have penatrated the fabric it will all be clean, try and not let your thoughts win logically fabric isn't a barrier when it's wet.

RedAutumn · 06/08/2024 07:18

Don't worry. Everything will be clean. The laundry detergent would still have got to the pillow case, and any dirt would be rinsed away by the washing machine.
Mine do this all the time.

watchuswreckthemic · 06/08/2024 07:23

Agree with others it's clean! Mine always does this- the machine will have done its job

IMustDoMoreExercise · 06/08/2024 07:26

It will be absolutely fine.
Please don't worry.

Justkidding678 · 06/08/2024 07:26

You put your bedding through a long hot wash. It will be all clean throughout.

Funderthighs · 06/08/2024 07:28

Sometimes people put items inside pillowcases when they wash them to protect them from zips, etc, in other items. They all come out clean. Enjoy your fresh bedding!

CityofRojas · 06/08/2024 07:29

I wash things INSIDE a pillowcase sometimes (shoes etc) and they’re always clean. So a pillowcase inside a duvet will be fine.

I also have OCD, have you seen a doctor? Sertraline helped me - sounds like you’re going through a rough patch.

Igmum · 06/08/2024 07:31

It's fine, mine does this all the time and I just shake the duvet cover to get it all out. Water and (dissolved) soap can definitely penetrate fabric (feel free to experiment). Hope you sleep well Flowers

SnapdragonToadflax · 06/08/2024 07:32

This happens to my bedding almost every wash and it all comes out clean. Nothing to worry about.

Are you on any medication for OCD? It can be very effective when you find the right one.

saraclara · 06/08/2024 07:37

It will be perfectly clean, and would have been even if your wash cycle had been an hour at 30 degrees. It will have been as hot and as soaked in the water and detergent as the rest of your bedding, and the friction of the fabric against the duvet cover will have given it extra agitation.

It's fine, honestly.

Thank you, I’m really grateful for your understanding. I’m just extra worried and cautious as I had a stomach bug recently so it was extra important for everything to be clean

Yes, I use those little fabric bags to protect my Bras' during a wash.
Clean as a whistle 😇

soupfiend · 06/08/2024 08:02

Yes I wash things in bags, mesh bags for laundry, they are about pillow case size. I put bras or delicate tops in them

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2024 08:04

I wash trainers and fabric handbags in pillow cases and everything comes out clean.

I got OCD as well, (asked for help and treatment about a week ago) and cannot understand how the stuff makes the way in to the buttoned duvet cover!
It's definitely clean, though!

Doesn't matter if it's not totally clean it'll be cleaner amd smell fresher than it did before you washed it.

It will be totally clean though, it still went through the full wash cycle and a fabric duvet cover won't act as a barrier while getting the cover itself washed.

I've often found socks that have been stuck in the legs of trousers since I took them off and they come out as clean as the rest of the wash.
