Storage in the bathroom - any ideas to fill cupboards?

Hi

I am in the enviable position of having a new bathroom put in

DP is trying to persuade me to have lots of cupboards in the bathroom, but what can I store in them? Surely any linen or electrical equipment will get damp with the steam from showers, etc.

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

I do store my straighteners/ epilator/ toothbrush charger in there

don't get too many they will fill up with all kinds of crap

All your cleaning things. Leaves a cupboard free in the kitchen.

We have floor to ceiling cupboards in our bathroom that we store bedding, towels etc in - no problems with it getting damp.

The bathroom is large and has a humidity controlled extractor fan, and the cupboard has a small radiator in it so that may help avoid any damp/condensation problems.

Its a great space to have!

Thank you for your ideas. Love the idea of an extractor fan.

Having a small bathroom at present, I have never had a cupboard in the bathroom. Will ordinary cupboards do? Or should we think about a rubber seal on the door to help keep it dry inside. Sorry, more questions...

Theres no seal on the door of ours. The cupboard is wood painted with a satin wood paint

If your bathroom is being done from scratch you could have a radiator put in the cupboard to overcome potential condensation problems

I think you have to have an extractor put in now if you are having a new bathroom done. I think ordinary cupboards would do.

As long as the room is well ventilated and heated, damp and mould won't be a problem.

Thanks BettySpaghetti. Love to have a radiator put in, but to be truthful, we are renovating a country property in France.

As such, electricty is cheaper out there and we will be putting in separate heaters for each room. However, I will talk to the 'builder' my DP and see what I can persuade him to do

Our bathroom cupboards are full of crap.

I keep all my lotions and potions and makeup I rarely use and nail varnishes and gubbins in there.

Also keep dd's stuff - her special soap and creams and stuff.

BettySpaghetti · 14/04/2008 21:49

farenth -you can get low wattage heaters (often used in greenhouses) that emit a gentle warmth all the time. Your builders could advise whats available there.

BettySpaghetti · 14/04/2008 21:55

Here you go -this type of thing

farenth · 14/04/2008 21:57

Thanks once again BettySpaghetti. That looks great.

Hmmm, I may be persuaded to have lots of cupboard space after all.

I have 2 double floor to ceiling airing cupboards with the immersion heater in one of them in my bathroom, and I kept bedding and towels and blankets in one, and table linen in the other. Nothing ever got damp, and it must have been warm in there as it was the favourite hiding place for my cats when they were alive.
