Looking to hire a cleaner

Hello everyone,

I live in a spacious 4-bedroom house with a very large kitchen/dining area (thanks to an extension), one bathroom, and two toilets. With a toddler and a newborn, we are struggling to keep up with the cleaning and can only manage the basics like vacuuming, laundry, and washing up daily.

I am looking for help with more thorough deep cleaning every two weeks. My main priorities are the kitchen and bathrooms. I have never had experience with a cleaner before, so I am seeking advice on what to expect and what kind of tasks I can request within a 3-hour timeframe fortnightly.

Here are some tasks I'm considering:

  • Deep cleaning of the kitchen, including appliances (oven, microwave, fridge)
  • Scrubbing and disinfecting the bathroom and toilets
  • Mopping floors
  • Dusting surfaces, including furniture and shelves
  • Wiping down windowsills and baseboards
  • Cleaning inside and outside of kitchen cabinets
  • Cleaning windows from the inside

I would appreciate any insights or recommendations from those who have experience with hiring a cleaner. What tasks should I prioritize, and are there any additional tasks that can be reasonably accomplished in a 3-hour visit?

Thank you in advance for your help!

The cleaner will tell you what they can reasonably get done. I would be surprised if they could do all that in 3 hours per fortnight as a lot of dirt will have built up.

The cleaner will quote for the job and tell you how long it takes.

I have a small, very compact 3 bed semi and get 2hrs a fortnight, that's just enough time to do everything but some jobs might get rotated for example windows one week, kitchen cabinets the next. It sounds like 3 hours would not be enough for what you're expecting.

The other thing I would say is that it's better if your house is tidy for the cleaner, if you have a lot of mess and clutter they won't be able to clean properly. I make sure everything is tidy before they come, bins and dishwasher emptied, toys and laundry laid away, all surfaces cleared. Not everyone does this but it means the cleaner can just crack on and not have to move things out of the way.

Thank you for your response, just to clarify that that list is only for kitchen/diner, bathrooms and maybe one room if possible not the whole house.
