New Hoover *boring thread alert*

Our Dyson v19 handheld has just giving up the ghost - pretty much about 2 years after our V8 model did. We seem to have gotten about 2 years out of them until they stop picking up effectively and start spitting their contents out (despite cleaning every part, replacing filters and batteries).

We are therefore looking for a new hoover. Considering purchasing a handheld plus a separate robo vaccum... budget £500-£600 all in. Potentially a wired vaccum for upstairs too....

Suggestions appreciated :-)

Requirements are:

  1. All hard floors downstairs. Do we need a hybrid hoover and mop? Are these good?
  1. Any comments on eufy or shark?
  1. We need to hoover stair runner carpet and upstairs carpets - can potentially buy a separate for this as it seems to be the carpet that killed our dyson.

Thanks!

We got the Shark handheld stick (the £130 one). It's literally the worst thing I've ever bought. The battery lasts 8 minutes according to Shark (in reality it's less), so I can't even use it to clean a single flight of stairs or our sofa in one go.

My fault for not reading the advert properly, as they do say in the blurb how short the battery life is. But the photos show someone cleaning their car with it and it costs £130 so I skim read and assumed it was essentially a handheld with a similar life to a stick vacuum. I don't know who would want this product.

slipperypenguin · 29/07/2024 21:33

Thanks! I had looked at that but 8 mins really wouldn't do much!

I've got a Shark hydrovac for our hard floors downstairs. It's absolutely brilliant, we've got 2 dogs and a tribe of grandkids but it does the whole of the ground floor and still has loads of battery left. You can also go over the top of rugs with it too, so it saves me washing the floor mats as much.

We've also got a Shark cordless for the carpets upstairs, we've got a second battery but we've never actually had to use it as we can do 4 bedrooms, landing and stairs without it running out.

Keen to see what people say. Our shark cordless is dying. I think we need to go back to corded. Ideally I'd love a Henry again but they're just too heavy and bulky.

Sprig1 · 29/07/2024 21:39

Henry. He is brilliant.

I have bought all manner of hoovers over the years and even bought a shark on recommendation from Mumsnet, the suction went after a while and I couldn’t fix it. My Henry was recommended by a builder, it’s simple and works very efficiently.

I’ve recently bought the Shark Stratos corded stick pet pro model - best hoover ever! The lead is long so it can do the stairs without having to move sockets. It’s light and easy to carry. No running out of charge. Lovely air freshener thingy makes your house smell lovely whilst hoovering. I have a dog and cats and this does a fantastic job.

PilgorTheGoat · 29/07/2024 21:56

I have a shark corded and I bloody hate it. I’m going back to a Miele as soon as I can afford it.

GladAllOver · 29/07/2024 22:01

A whole thread about hoovers, without a single mention of a Hoover. Have you tried one?

Emotionalsupporthamster · 29/07/2024 22:04

My Dyson’s just given up the ghost too and I’m also not impressed with their longevity (it’s our second). Would get a Henry but I just can’t be fucked with hauling it up and down the stairs.

So yeah, I’m following your boring thread avidly Grin

I second this. We just bought the Stratos last week and it’s amazing.

I have a Samsung pet jet90 which really like as it’s light and easy for stairs and main carpets. It needs a back up battery though if you ever do whole house at once
I find my lift away shark very heavy but it is good for sitting room carpet ( we have a fig and 3 cats)
I loathe the Henry which is now just used for the car
my robot hoover was rubbish - just useless!

slipperypenguin · 29/07/2024 22:16

Had been looking at the shark stratus cordless for downstairs. Is it okay on wood floors? A lot of the details refer to carpets and pets - which we have neither of downstairs!

Anyone got a robo?

The hand held Henry quick is brilliant. I replaced my Dyson with it and it's soooo much better.

Good suction, rotating head, lasts for ever on one charge. Turbo boost and the pods last for ages.

I'm completely converted. I've had a shark handheld and I sent it back.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/07/2024 06:23

I love my SEBO for carpets, 20 years old and still going strong.

Also just bought a cheap Lefant robot for the hard floors downstairs and absolutely love it. Recommended on MN.

I brought a Shark cordless that was dead on arrival and returned it. JL own brand half price one in the sale is useless. Always taking it apart to sort out problems.I’m sure they are made by Dyson!

I was just about to ask if anyone had a handheld Henry as I've heard good reports about them recently and considering this as our Dyson just isn't picking up much anymore despite cleaning it, changing the filter and buying a new battery. Are there different models of handheld Henry's? Anyone that you would recommend?

susiedaisy1912 · 30/07/2024 06:55

My cordless shark was absolutely shite. Just bought a corded basic model of Hoover called Hoover Breeze. It's a bit chunky but my god it picks up the cat fur like a dream. Cost £80 from Argos.

showeringthisaft · 30/07/2024 06:55

I've got a shark cordless and it's crap. Wouldn't have another but I've heard excellent reports about the corded sharks, so that might be a good option for upstairs.

Phillipa12 · 30/07/2024 07:06

Another vote for Henry. I am a Dyson and Shark convertible. Yes he gets stuck on everything and likes to fall over but there is a reason that every builder I know owns one. My Henry is over 10 years old and despite being used daily, I have 3dc and a dog and have had a 5 month build happen, hes still as good as the day i got him. Yes he's also a little bulky to go up and down the stairs, but with your budget I would buy two and keep one upstairs, that's what i have done.

Get a Henry. Just works perfectly.
