Pillows - I'm fed up of pancakes!

We always seem to buy big comfy looking pillows which squish into flat pancakes after about a month .
I think it's about time we invested in some decent pillows which retain their shape and size.
Are we talking memory foam types or sprung pillows?

There's a whole world of pillows out there, help me find a decent one please

We have Dunlopillo latex (?) ones that cost around £30 each -well worth it though.

Like you we went through buying new pillows of varying qualities only for them to go flat equally as quickly until we discovered these

burstingbug · 12/04/2008 12:03

Thanks, will look them up now

I splurged on a goose down pillow (well, in the sales but still a splurge), and it's fantastic - have had it for about 3 years and it's still exactly as fluffy and comfortable as ever. Whereas all our spongey ones are just thin and depressed looking.

Lenniegirl · 21/04/2008 13:49

buy really expensive ones.

we have duck down from john lewis (cheaper than goose, but still luvverly).

am gradually replacing whole familys pillows with them

burstingbug · 21/04/2008 13:54

I'll have a look around the nature reserve town this afternoon to see how much they are

Down, they may go flat in the night but they pump up beautifully. We have feather and down on the bottom for substance and just down on the top for lovely soft comfort.

claireybee · 21/04/2008 14:29

Dunlopillows are great

Nighbynight · 06/05/2008 14:58

did you buy your pillows? Argos had the best value down ones for years.

mummyjaguar · 06/05/2008 15:11

I'm having the same problem despite having paid out £50 a go for goose down ones . I would really appreciate a god recommendation. At the moment I seem to be replacing them every six months or so!

mummyjaguar · 06/05/2008 15:12

I should say Good recommendation. I think I've got the God thing sorted

Jura, they do take getting used to but after 3 years with the same memory pillow, I can't stand "normal" ones

I do have a second soft pillow, however, for reading in bed at night, then discard it for sleep.

MotherOfGirls · 06/05/2008 16:13

I have had a memory foam pillow for about 3 years and have loved it since day one. I take it with me when I stay overnight in hotels! I seem to remember there was a choice of firm, medium and soft, and I went for medium. Also, some are a strange shape - higher at the neck then head - but mine is pillow shaped and wonderful!

Nighbynight · 06/05/2008 16:29

well, I am happy with my argos down ones, and they only cost about 7,50 each, or something like that.

blossomsmine · 06/05/2008 22:27

I can't afford £30 for a dunlopillo one but need some good ones, anyone got any alternatives to the 'down' ones as dh is abit allergic to that i think?

maidamess · 06/05/2008 22:28

I buy pillows in the sales and change them every couple of months.

I can't bear to think of all those parasites crawling around in them.

How people hang on to their pillows for years on end is beyond me!

blossomsmine · 06/05/2008 22:46

maidamess......i used to hang on to mine i just didn't think about all that horrible stuff....how awful, not i change them quite alot!!! But i really need a good/nice pillow that isn't massively expensive as i want them for all of us so thats quite a few pillows!

nicoloola · 11/05/2008 21:49

You may have bought some by now, but I was sick of the same problem. But the last lot of pillows I bought at Ikea, and they've been FAB - cost about £4 (but last time we went back - couldn't see them and paid about £7 for one for ds), and have been nice and plump for months and months now.

blossomsmine · 13/05/2008 21:56

Nicoloola, thats brilliant! I am happy to spend £4 or the £7 for a pillow as long as they stay nice for a while, so thanks

Grublin · 13/05/2008 22:00

A month on from my OP and I've still not sorted out any new pillows!!
