Second hand cot regret smoke smell

Just been and picked up a second hand bedside cot. Seller stated it had been used for less than a week then the coslept , in perfect condition.
When I pulled up at the house the seller bussled out with the cot pieces saying she would give me a lift to put in the car, was lovely and explained how everything went together. But as we were outside I hadn't clocked the smoke smell.
I never even got to the front door so didn't realise they were smokers.

My house now stinks of smoke. All the fabric parts are in the washer with napisan, I have wiped down all the hard parts , but I can still smell it !

What else can I use? I feel like my whole house stinks of second hand smoke .

Obviously will be getting a new mattress but the base board smells .

I'd bin it. Smoking is a leading cause of SIDS. It's not worth the risk.

WindowViper · 13/07/2024 15:18

You need to bin it - sorry. You can’t put a baby in something that smells of smoke.

Did they say it was fr a smoke free home? If so I’d be after a refund.

TingeOGinge · 13/07/2024 15:21

Take it back.

Knock on the door and say it stinks of smoke and that's a health risk for your baby.

Absolutely do not use it.

I'd message and say you want to return initially. They'll probably tell you to bog off but it's worth a try.

Either way, I wouldn't use this and would bin it. I would also damage it so no-one is tempted to re-sell it or do it up.

Or this but be cautious.

How long have you had it? I’d scrub it down with detergent and air it out in a room for a few days.

check it afterwards and decide from there whether to keep it

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 13/07/2024 15:24

Scrub it down, replace mattress, repaint if you can be bothered.

They didn't say it was from a smoke free home, just that it had only been used for a week and was in excellent condition.

Ah well lesson learned I think 🤔 very annoying as now I feel I can't really trust second hand stuff 😕 and

You just need ask if it's smoke free. I buy alot of 2nd hand and that's always my first question after a horrible sofa incident about 10 years ago.

If they didn't say it was from a smoke free home then unfortunately put it down to experience.
I wouldn't use it even after cleaning because the chemicals from the smoke will still be there, not worth it.

Ohmydreams · 13/07/2024 17:00

I wouldn't use it,unfortunately you probably don't have a come.back but not worth it.
