I'm looking into hiring a cleaning services company or a solo cleaner for my house. I know services vary depending on how good the cleaning co / person is but just looking for a general view on what is normally covered as part of a 2 or 3 hour clean and what to tidy up before hand!

For example I know they will clean the rooms, wipe down surfaces, toilets bathroom etc. but what about general mess as in items laying about / clothes on the bed or hanging over bannister Shock I'm not a dirty household but more of a clutter one and tend to think it might be more hassle the night before having to go around and Chuck all this type of stuff in the wardrobe. Just looking for some general ideas and appreciate I will need to ask the company / cleaner themselves once have quotes. An old friend had a really great housekeeper and she did all sorts including laundry and folding and putting away plus polishing glasses and watering plants - but I'm sure that is not part of standard service.

Before you get too caught up in asking the questions, you should get a cleaner / some cleaners lined up for an in-home visit to assess your needs.

A lot of people who've never had a cleaner worry about the cost, or worry about what's included & what isn't. No. Worry about finding a reliable cleaner who comes highly recommended by someone you know (not just from a facebook group) and who has availability. The great ones usually have a waiting list.

When you find that person, tell them what you want, and they will tell you if they do it. Just about all aspects of housework will be done by cleaners across the board without it being considered unreasonable, but you're unlikely to get one person or one cleaning company that will undertake it all, so it's going to be a pick & mix affair.

Be clear on what you want. Let them tell you if they offer it.

For me, my lovely cleaner, now retired, used to: change bedlinen, dust, vacuum, mop hard floors, clean bathroom and kitchen. Occasionally she would wipe the windows ( inside only, cleaners are not window cleaners ).

For other customers she also did ironing or tidying up.

She didn't do anything outdoors or heavy work like moving furniture to clean behind it, scrubbing floors or skirting on hands and knees.

Generally cleaning firms don't like to do oven cleaning because of risk of damage (or accusations of damage).
