How to keep my new bedding white?

WellieBootsBlue · 10/07/2024 18:23

I've just binned my old yellowing bedding, and replaced it with nice new white set. No matter what I did with the old bedding I could never keep it properly white- ironically I suspect it might have been some of the laundry products and stain removers I was using. I love bedding that's really brilliant white, can anyone advise how I could keep it this way? TIA

Soda crystals and 60° washes.

AngryLikeHades · 10/07/2024 18:26

Is it 100% cotton?

Wash regularly, pre treat any marks/stains before you put them in the machine, dry outside in sunshine (haha recently 🙄) as much as possible

Meadowfinch · 10/07/2024 18:42

Soak in a washing soda solution for a couple of hours before washing in the machine. Then hang on the line to dry

CrotchetyQuaver · 10/07/2024 18:43

60 degree washes, I don't do anything else, I just hung a set out and was thinking how nice and white it looked. I use old school Ariel bio powder

TheShellBeach · 10/07/2024 18:44

Wash it in biological powder on its own in the machine, at 60°c.

This is how I wash all my white bedlinen and it's always stayed crisp and white.

I add vanish powder crystal white when washing white sheets and towels. Agree as much sunshine as possible and not put any non white in the wash.

greenwoodentablelegs · 10/07/2024 18:46

Agreed plus napisan if you see some in Asda

Ecover Biological Powder. Brilliant results - I have 15 year old white towels that are still bright white.

Best temperature really depends on the efficiency of your washing machine.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 10/07/2024 18:47

I've got white bedding that's decades old and still white. I wash at 60, only put other white things in the wash, use biological washing tabs, scoop of vanish for whites, sometimes tumble dry, sometimes line dry.

DoublePeonies · 10/07/2024 19:09

Only ever have completely white stuff in the machine with it.
Vanish if desired
Dry on the line.

Yes to biological washing detergent. That's all I use so forgot to mention.

BeaRF75 · 10/07/2024 22:28

Don't wash it at home. Send to a professional laundry - it makes a big difference.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/07/2024 22:36

You need Ace for whites. It’s a liquid that you add to your washing cycle. Use that with biological washing powder and wash on a 60 degree wash. My bedding is bright white still.

Our grandson was here last weekend and his white vest was covered in Weetabix, watermelon, blueberries, avocado, strawberry and god knows what else, because his parents forgot his bib and the one I’ve got doesn’t fit well. I soaked it in Ace overnight, it all came out.

BlackForestCake · 25/08/2024 17:20

Is Ace just bleach?

What kind of lights do we have. I like really warm, yellow light and was really worried about how yellow my 100% cotton sheets seemed to have become.

Adjusted the 'battens' from warm white to cool blue light and bingo.
