How often do you seal your natural stone tiles (kitchen splashbacks especially)?

I'm thinking of having them for a kitchen splashback and I've heard reports of them needing re-sealing anything from one month to 5 years. How often have you needed to reseal yours?

Also, does sealing them make them shiny? (not sure if you can get matt sealants?). And if you have the rough sort (tumbled?) are they really annoying to clean? Sorry for all the tile-related questions Thanks!

You go to Topps Tiles and buy tile sealant. Seriously - you brush it on, it dries and then they don't soak up crap. Yes you can get matt. Annoying to clean if not sealed, but you can do it by making a paste of biological washing powder and boiling water and painting it on, leaving it for a bit them rinsing - that will take off a year's grease and muck no problem

Oh and two coats of sealent did ours for about a decade before I thought about doing it again
