shower them in the bath, if they're not too long

mabel1973 · 10/04/2008 13:33

brilliant - it never occured to me to actually remove them from the window...

I was wondering this only this morning as I dusted ours.

You can get those funny dusting contraptions from Lakeland I think but not sure if they're any good

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 10/04/2008 13:34

Baby wipes...my mum swears by it

purplemoon · 10/04/2008 13:36

this?

pedilia · 10/04/2008 13:37

I do the same as southeast, just take them down and rinse them off over the bath.

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 13:38

Can't you close them completely one way, and dust that (now relatively flat) side, then close them the other way, and do the same? Or will there be too much left on the overlaps (don't have any myself, so don't know).

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 13:39

(ie, I don't have any venetian blinds - I have plenty of dust).

BettySpaghetti · 10/04/2008 13:40

Yu get loads left under the overlapping bits.... or at least you would if your house was dusty which mine never is of course....honest

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 13:42

Ah, oh well.

This is the lakeland thing - bit like the betterware one, but with more prongs, iyswim.

BettySpaghetti · 10/04/2008 13:45

Thats the one.

I keep thinking about getting one but then I just wonder whether or not its just another useless gadget to clutter up the cupboards

JackieNo · 10/04/2008 13:47

If it's not stuck on dust, could you use a feather duster (if it had a narrow enough middle bit, obviously)?

twinsetandpearls · 10/04/2008 13:57

I spent ages this morning taking down my blinds, struggling upstairs with them, have marked our newly painted hallway only to find out they are to big to go in the bloody bath. They are currently in the shower!

hippipotami · 10/04/2008 14:15

Not sure you should put wooden ones in the shower? Unless you then spend ages drying them (as tedious as wiping them in the first place) surely the water will affect the wood/varnish?

I just turn them one way, dust, then turn them the other way, dust again. If there is any dirt stuck on (as opposed to loose dust) I use a damp cloth.

twinsetandpearls · 10/04/2008 14:20

They are not wooden, just normal ones that were here when we moved in. They were very dusty when we moved in and I have never really managed to get them completely clean. We were going to replace them when we decorated our room but as we are moving it seems a waste of money.

flubdub · 10/04/2008 14:27

Why is everyone cleaning blinds today?! I just dusted our wooden ones this morning.
I took to the tedious duster routine. I have thought about rinsing them under the shower, but in not sure what it would do to the wood. The ones in our bedroom are always covered in dust, as theres not carpet on our floor, just varnished floorboards, so the dust just gets kicked up into the air.

We have wooden venetians in all three of our bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen (which has the big windows) and our living room - so you can imagine how much time is frittered away dusting blinds !!

twinsetandpearls · 10/04/2008 14:33

Because I only have time to clean my house in the school holidays.

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 14:40

the wooden ones i used to have were always fine after showering . i've shampooed the carpet today, maybe it's the nice weather.

Bramshott · 10/04/2008 14:42

I have the Lakeland gadget - it's okay, and quicker than dusting them individually, but not a miracle.

mabel1973 · 10/04/2008 15:06

haven't seen the betterware thing before (can't open the lakeland one)..i did wonder about that thing I've seen on TV that supposed to 'attract' dust (sorry can't remember what it's called), but the advert has a dog wagging it's tail at the end can't think of anything else that might ring any bells with anyone!
I have tried a feather duster, it doesn't work as the dust sticks too much.
I might try the bath method, although am a little worried about the effect on the wood ....mind aren't exactly the most high quality blinds...
