Washing machine help

Had a hotpoint for 4 years but recently its been making very loud noises, keeps moving forwards and is now leaking water underneath.

Can anyone recommend any good washing machines please. Budget of £400. The space is not massive so need something like 7kg or s.

Also looking on currys/argos to remove old machine but they say I have to do unplugging which I have no clue on. Any advice?

I can't help with what machine to get but I did want to say have a look at Boots electricals online. I had no idea there was such a thing until I was looking for a cooker couple of yrs ago.
You get points!

I believe the actual supplier is then AO

It's very easy to disconnect a washing machine. Unplug it, turn the water inlet off, lift out the hose and put it into a bucket. YouTube will have videos if you're apprehensive.

I find all white goods have a built-in obsolescence so just shop around and see what fits your budget. Bosch are supposed to be good, you could also look at Which to see what they recommend.

You shouldn’t need to disconnect anything if you’re having it connected to existing plumbing when it’s delivered. I always use John Lewis and they do it all.

I once had a Hotpoint and it broke down every 10-11 months, it was terrible. Ditto Indesit. That said, I’ve just replaced a 10 year old Siemens with the cheapest 1400 spin Beko and it is horrible, I definitely wouldn’t recommend one. Bosch or Siemens are the only makes I’d consider in future, and even Bosch are a shadow of what they used to be before they tried to make washing machines clever!

Thanks thats good to know. So john lewis will disconnect old set up and then fit new one in?

Argos say I have to do it and clear any water before they put new one in

If I remember rightly I just unhooked the waste hose that empties the water into a vertical pipe behind the machine, and let it drain the little bit of residual water into a bowl on the floor. My machine isn’t under a worktop and I can easily reach behind it to switch off the plug at the wall, and to lift the waste hose out of its pipe. The delivery men undid the blue water inlet hose and connected the new one to the water supply.

My daughter has integrated appliances hidden behind cupboards and I don’t know whether she could get to the plumbing behind the machine.

John Lewis do a two year warranty as standard, and often have special offers for eg a five year warranty at no extra cost, or free installation and/or disposal of the old machine.

I wondered about leaving the old one at the end of the drive in the hope a scrap man might take it, but it’s just easier to have the delivery men take it away!

Four years doesn't seem very old to me; have you considered getting it repaired?
