How much do you pay for a cleaner in London?

I've found a company offering vetted and insured cleaners for £8.50 p/h, how does that compare with cleaners that aren't working through an agency?

That is VERY well priced!!!

Normally £10 an hour.

Agency can sometimes be a bit more as they take a couple of quid commission on top of hourly rate.

I would prefer to use a private lady. IME agency staff change quite quickly and as I have dogs I wanted someone they were used to.....That was back when I could afford one anyway!

we pay £8 an hour to an agency TW2

I prefer agency though!

£8 for non agency

£6.50 an hour to cleaner, plus £100 or so a year to the agency.

Been using them for 5 years, they will happily keep sending you different cleaners til you find one you like, then make sure you are covered when your regular cleaner goes on holiday etc.

£8 per hour non agency

thanks everyone, sounds like £8.50 is about average. Apparently £2.50 goes to the agency and £6 goes to the cleaner. I would normally have tried to find someone through word of mouth, but the only person I know nearby with a cleaner is my sister and she has too many clients already. Maybe I'm being naive but I just feel a bit safer with an agency, some kind of recourse if things are broken or not satisfactory in some way. They do try to get the same cleaner to you each time, barring holidays and sick leave which they cover with someone else.
